EMT Approved!
Purchased a couple weeks ago for hiking Runyun Canyon and can't say enough about this: the portability, contents' quality, and overall value are all 5 stars. Red outer shell is easily recognizable in my pack along w/ the simple and well organized contents' list on the back. Looking (but hopefully not - *knocks wood*) to utilize this in the field in helping myself or others.
How could anyone give this 5 stars... Garbage.
Complete garbage. Need to cut some gauze with the scissors provided? Forget about it. Want to tape said gauze to your skin after you've properly cleaned and dried the area? FORGET ABOUT IT! I'm completely blown away that REI would be their name on this product. The scissors should have just been left out (they're garbage), and the tape simply does not stick to a clean, dry area. I even to shaved around the wound to try a hairless area, but really??? This tape can't even stick to my hair? Complete and total garbage from REI, I'm so thankful that I wasn't in the back country or farther from civilization. Maybe it deserves one star because I like the color scheme? No, it doesn't even deserve that.
From hiking to picnics this is great
I love this little kit, it's very light and very well stocked for a little day hike kit. I've had to use this on many occasions to help other hikers on the trail. There is a little bit of space on the inside where I've added some matches, safety pins and single serve ibprofen. The only thing in this that is not as useful are the tiny scissors and that's only because I always carry a multitool on me.
Replace/Add
I have used this kit a few times during this past summer and found it good overall. However, the HART Brand Sheer Strip do not stick to skin covered with bug spray, sun lotion or sweat. I suggest replacing them with Band-Aid Band. Also, I have replaced the scissors and splitter remover with a Swiss Army Classic.
Almost Perfect
This first aid kit has become a permanent part of my day hikes. It's so compact and lightweight that I often forget it is in my top pocket. There is a little room for improvement. It does not come with latex gloves for all-important BSI (Body Substance Isolation). I also added 2 ibuprofen tablets (now has 4 200mg) because I hike with a friend. Overall, it's a great small kit at a great value. I highly recommend it.
Small and light, but no tweezers
It is a small, light and easy to organize day hike first aid kit. It has nearly everything. The only negative is having a splinter remover instead of tweezers. Tweezers are preferable, because you can remove ticks with them.
Great for Cub Scout Hikes
Needed a small first aid kit to bring on a Cub Scout hike. Perfect size and items for our type of simple hiking.
Portable and Quick Fix
This kit is my favorite item that I carry in my purse; I couldn't go anywhere without it. I am an experience hiker and I always keep the First Aid Kit with me when I am in the woods and when I am in the city during the week. The medical pouch is small enough that it is portable and will easily fit into backpacks and purses. It also has simple compartments/sleeves inside to keep things organized. The supplies are useful for quick fixes. For a "Two Days/One Person" kit, the quantity is reasonable.
Great day pack
This pack is just as it says, a day pack for hiking. We take it in small trips while leaving the larger kit at the campsite. Only thing I have added so far is a tweezers
Compace and Light weight
Great first aid kit for the price. I will add tweezers and latex gloves. I haven't taken it hiking yet but that looks like the only additions I will need.
