it’s simple yet powerful in the right hands.

First off to everyone who gave this a bad review. It sounded like you never even examined the kit prior to your expeditions. The first thing I did was open it to review all contents prior to even leaving my house with. I did add a Mylar blanket into the kit. About 3 weeks ago I had to put this kit to the test when my wife fell and broke her ankle while on trial and it did wonders. The design on the bag made everything easy to find which allowed me to stabilize my wife with in minutes and my added Mylar blanket kept her warm until the rescue team arrived. I would have given this a 5 but the bag not being waterproof (even though everything inside is sealed in plastic) and the kit not coming with a Mylar blanket I gave it a 4. I hope this helps anyone who is thinking about purchasing this bag. Good luck and be safe out there.

Opt for a Different Kit

I have recently completed the O Circuit down in the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile (Patagonia). This first aid kit was a planned purchase based on the reviews and what it had for 2 people as there were 2 of us completing the hike. Unfortunately, the kit did not meet expectations and the contents were degrading or falling apart. See attached pic of the tape. Most things were individually wrapped in plastic (good for weatherproofing) but the kit itself is not waterproof (room for improvement). Overall, I carried it inside a dry bag but the materials were falling apart when I opened it up and needed it. I would opt for another kit.

Contains all the essentials for hiking, a must !

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hubby & I hike every weekend with our golden retriever in tow and have found this kit to provide all the essentials we need. The bag is about the size of a fanny pack and I love that once you unzipper it all of the essentials are in separate, labeled compartments, because who has time to dig through a bag looking for a specific item when you're hurt?! This kit literally contains everything you need and should have when hiking or camping from a band aid to hospital quality tools and everything is individually packaged so it stays sterile and fresh. I've added a few items for our pup like quick clotting powder but everything included will work for him in case of emergency as well. The pack is small and light enough to fit into our lightweight backpack and it gives me peace of mind that I am prepared for anything while on the trail. This is a must have for every hiker and we don't head out on the trails without it.

Missing an essential lifesaving item

Whether you are on a two hour hike or a two week trek, a deep gash hitting an artery can cause you to bleed to death before professional help can arrive. This product misleadingly states it has a surgical dressing to "stop the bleeding." This misinformation could have fatal consequences. Only one thing will stop an arterial bleed in an emergency and that's a tourniquet. If this kit doesn't have one, which it doesn't, it should not claim to have the capability of stopping bleeding. I have 38 years of experience as an emergency physician. This is so important that "Stop The Bleed" is a registered trademark of the Department of Defense.

All the basics

I think any first aid kit is going to be missing something that you personally would want. but the good news is you can add it! it's stuffed pretty full but I added quik clot pads without an issue, and you can easily add or sub some different meds. I love the book that comes with it too. I would say this is an excellent kit, just review what's in it and what your needs are for the trip you're going on. I also love that you can get the refill packs on stuff you use. now I don't have to feel like I have to save everything for an emergency and can freely take an aspirin or whatever if I need it. four stars just because I really with the bag was waterproof.

Has everything you need

You could probably put together a similar first aid kit and tailor it to your needs for about the same price and even save some weight and volume. That being said, this kit makes it simple for you to buy everything in a single package. The container is a heavy duty, high denier nylon that protects all the contents. I typically pack it on the top of my backpack so that it is easily available. I've had to pull it out quickly in more than one situation. Contents are quality products and the layout of the kit makes it easy to restock. This has been our main kit for 4 night trips with 2-6 people.

The booklet is invaluable! Example.

I preface my review by writing that I have a much earlier version of an Adventure Medical Kit. The accompanying booklet by Eric A. Weiss, M.D. was superb. One reviewer here, an ED doc, rejected the kit because it did not have a tourniquet. Point taken if the bleeding can’t be stopped. In the first few pages of the booklet, it describes & illustrates how to improvise a tourniquet. It says to put a TK mark on the victim & add the time. It mentions that you need to very slowly loosen the tourniquet every hour while maintaining direct pressure. If bleeding can’t be controlled with direct pressure, retighten the TK. It reads that if the TK is on for more than 3 hr, the limb below the TK may require amputation.

First Aid Kit

I bought this item for a 10 day camping/hiking trip and it is a perfect size to either place in your vehicle or pack. The design of the kit has easy access to all the items. The first aid items themselves are quality made and durable. Always bring a First Aid kit with you. I do not ever intend on using them on my trips, however it is the greatest thing to have when you or another individual is in need of it!

Good kit for any day hike

It was helpful to have the medical guide on how to handle emergencies with us. One child had a lengthy nosebleed and and we referred to the guide to be sure we were doing all the right things. Light and so easy to find things.
