Took these to the slot canyons and they did great. They are light, with good ventilation. I like lace pull… but I didn’t know what to do with the tab. The picture of the shoe included in the shoe tag is a a different design that what the actual shoe is. Regardless, I just tucked it into the lace to keep it from bobbing around. This shoe has great traction and fit my wide feet. They were very comfortable and I can’t wait to keep running on them. They are quick and easy to put on and very comfortable. The only downside which is why I gave it 4 stars (would have given it 4.5 if I could) the light, mesh like fabric of the shoe that makes it great, also let’s in a lot of dirt and sand. I could feel the dirt/sand in my toes. But I’d take that over heavy non-breathable shoes.
Likes: I really enjoy the style and colors of these shoes. I feel like I have really good traction with these shoes while trail running or on any other surface. Not having to lace up my shoes is very nice. They provide great comfort and feel solidy built and protect my feet when I may hit a rock or a root. Room for Improvement: I wished these shoes had more arch support out of the box. I know that's more of a personal preference with the shape of my arches. I would also like there to be a spot that's made for putting the plastic cinched lace part. I tuck under the laces, but that can feel tight on the top of my foot. I can't leave it untucked because the things bouces around a lot when running. Overall, I think it's a great running and casual show that I will continue to use on and off the trails.
What I like about them: The quick lace made it easier to get going quick. I don’t like tying my shoes laces, and the fact that I didn’t need to do it with these shoes was very helpful. I also like how comfortable they were it made my feet feel as if I was walking/running in a cloud. They were so comfortable to run with. I took them in grass, pavement, and dirt trails and they have help up nicely. They felt nice right off the box and only for more comfortable as I used them in my daily exercise.
I received these products for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. The first few times I put this shoe on it felt like my feet didn't have any support for the arch and the inside of the foot. It was like I was tipping in and the shoe felt very tight. After trying to wear it a few more times, mainly because I received this for free for a review otherwise I wouldn't have tried. After more wear, the shoe felt my grounded and fully supportive. the top of the shoe has a different type of lace and it does actually help to expand the shoe to fit more comfortable. I would say its still not wide enough and supportive enough for me to wear for a longer walk and especially not a run.
After destroying my feet in a couple of different brands on the Arizona Trial these shoes were my holy grail. I probably put +300 miles in these shoes on really rough terrain on that hike alone. Hiking shoes are really personal, and for me personally they have been the BEST hiking shoes I have used. I also love that I could wear them in town without feeling weird. My only complaint is they got really beat up- wish I could have gotten more mileage out of them but just purchased a new pair. I love the funky colors.
I love these shoes! They are so comfortable to move in. For reference, I usually do shorter distance trail runs (2-5 miles) so I can’t speak to how these hold up on long distance journeys. My favorite feature is the pull-string laces. They even have a handy tuck-away for the lace ends! No more untying or tripping while I run!
I was surprised by how much I liked this shoe. It is well constructed with excellent support and cushion. I found the wider toe box and sole to provide stability. The no tie laces hold well and the heel was snug, keeping the dirt out which is a pet peeve for me with other brands. I have enjoyed trail, road and beach thus far!
Went to Lake Tahoe for Memorial Weekend and wore these shoes for hiking and trail running. They were great! The fit is same as street shoe size, no rubbing anywhere. It felt like it formed to my foot the more I kept going. They were super light too as it felt like I was barely wearing a shoe. Highly recommend!
I went on a couple hikes and trail runs with these and thought they are very comfortable, lightweight, and breathable. In addition, they were also comfortable walking on regular paved roads/sidewalks. My feet get really hot, especially in trail/hiking shoes, but these had good ventilation through the mesh. I like the grips on the bottom of the shoes that helped me feel more confident about running downhill on rocks without slipping. The one downside is that the way the grips are spaced, some small rocks can get stuck in between the grips but isn't difficult to get out or will fall out on their own while you walk/run. I like the single-pull laces for quick and easy slipping on and off. I wish the instructions provided to tuck the laces actually corresponded with the shoe but there isn't a piece to actually tuck the laces; however, I am able to tuck the pull part into the to keep the laces from moving too much while running. Overall, I like the lightweight mixed with cushion and gripping.
I was overall not impressed by the Salomon Sense Ride 5 Trail Runners. Visually, I was very excited by them and really like the color combinations/overall shape of the shoe. However, after trying them out on a few runs and hikes, my feet were pretty sore. I have flatter feet with barely any arch, and the outer part of my foot became fatigued by these shoes. Another feature that I was curious to experience was the drawstring laces. Initially, I found it really annoying because the excess would flap around, make noise, and hit my feet. I eventually tucked it into the laces and that helped. I prefer standard laces. I would recommend these shoes to a friend who has less flat feet than myself and who likes drawstring laces. They weren't for me though.
