I have been wearing the same size women's bike shorts (medium) for the last 34 years. (I am a size 6, 29-30 waist with muscular thighs, small waist and little belly fat). I understand compression and appreciate it for long rides, but the sizing chart is all wrong. I could barely get them on. If you fork out $150+ for this, I would recommend sizing up. I am 5'6-1/2 inches with longer legs (~33" inseam) and this short seems to run plenty long enough (hitting me just above knees). Padding does looks quite substantial for long rides. It was an REI Outlet item, but I am still disappointed REI did not specify that it runs small.
