Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and Âľ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Length change from previous version
I bought a second pair of these shorts because I love my first pair so much. This updated version is slightly longer, which is actually disappointing because one of things I like so much about my original pair is how they are shorter than my other pair of (different company) mountain bike shorts. The fit overall seems fine for me, giving me enough room in my power butt and thighs, and I do need to adjust the waist to cinch it down a little. For reference, I am 5'6" with short legs, small waist but larger butt, hips, and thighs, and normally wear a size medium or 6 in shorts and pants. The added small side pocket is a nice update from my original pair. I am disappointed to see REI still describes the short and liner as being able to be worn separately / removable. This is true, but you need to cut two cloth tabs -- it would be better to see some sort of toggle system, so you can remove them or attach them, without irreversibly cutting the straps. (Photo shows old shorts on left, new shorts on right)
nice material, great side pocket, careful w size
Women's outdoor gear seems to run small in my opinion, so I often size up from my "normal" clothes. I have a pair of patagonia mountain bike shorts that are just a bit too snug, so thought I'd try these instead. I am 5'6" about 135 lbs and have a athletic frame. I wear a 4 in most clothing, but chose a 6 for the patagonia shorts. In reference to those sizes, I chose a medium in these. They were too big. The chamois was gapping at the crotch and the waist of the outer short was just gapping all around. I would have liked to try a small, but they are no longer available. Was worried if I tried to make them work, they would get caught on the bike seat when getting on and off the bike. The pros: these are a great material, good pattern, and have the exact pockets I'm looking for.
Runs very large
I am 5'6", 140 lbs and hips measure ~37.5". I ordered the size small and they are way too big. As pictured, there are pull tabs on the inside of the shorts to cinch the waistband, but they were already at their tightest and it was still way too big-- pretty poor design. I would have tried wearing my stretchy Arcade belt with it, but there are no belt loops. The liner felt a little bulky to me as and is not truly removable unless you cut the ties that hold it in (I understand this helps the store keep the liner and outer shorts together). I did find them comfortable to ride in aside from the waist band falling down. Overall not super stoked on these shorts.
Better than expected
I was concerned about the material standing up to long single-track rides through thorny terrain, but these shorts have performed great! The lightweight design is perfect for Tucson spring/ summer. I haven't had any issues with the zipper, though I do not use them often. I was not a fan of how the liner is attached to the shorts (ie. not removable), but I have gotten used to it and am grateful that they are attached to the shorts. As a plus-size rider (5'10''/ 230 - I got an XL), these shorts are perfect! These are the first women's specific shorts I have owned, as women's shorts are generally too short and low rise. I know some people like that, and in that case, these shorts are not for you. I highly recommend this product! I've already made converts out of a few friends.
Love the material and the length
I bought these at the store in Littleton CO but with COVID couldn't try them on and after reading other reviews, I knew sizing was a potential issue. I am 5'6 and 140 with the weight on my hips and thighs..I am usually a 10 on top and a 10 or 12 on the bottom depending on the cut of the pattern. I was pleased that these Mediums were a perfect fit for my curvy profile..great fit at the waist and a just-right fit in the butt. I like the 3 zippered pockets, the ability to adjust the waist with velcro tabs, the length of the short and the cut-out at the bottom side panels. I cut the strings that attach the liner and they work great as both biking and hiking shorts. I think these might be a hit or miss item depending on your body shape. Would probably hang more on someone with slim hips. I like the padding and it wore well for a 15 mile recreational ride.
Runs large and not cute
I normally wear a large and the liner shorts fit fine but the outside shorts were hanging off my waist, had to return. Shorts don't have much shape to them so they look pretty baggy. I'm sure there are better shorts out there.
Inner liner and outer shell not consistent sizes
I like the liner as it’s snug but the outer shorts are too big. I had to stitch in the waist so they wouldn’t keep falling off my waist even though there is a Velcro piece to make it smaller and the 2 layers are connected with a small loop. I tried on the XS but the liner felt too tight. I almost bought the XS just for the outer pair but my sewing skills will suffice. Love the fabrics on both pieces.
they do what they should
I’ve worn a few times. They dry quickly the liner gives the cushion I need and I use the liner with other shorts and occasionally use the shorts on hot day hikes.
Poor Sizing
I bought these shorts in L and XL. The XL and were gaping in the back, but the large is tight. The adjustment to fix the gap is worthless. I’m so disappointed. What is a girl with hips got to do to get a pair of MTB shorts that fit?
Full thigh coverage bike shorts
Finally - a women's bike short that isn't too short. Not everyone want shorts that barely cover their thighs. These are great - long enough, not binding at the waist (adjustble) and comfortable to ride in.
