My Speedcross’s have over 100 miles on them and still look brand new. I’m not convinced I’ll ever need another pair. They have been all over technical trails in southern Utah and even to the top of dead Womens pass on the Inca trail in Peru. My favorite features are; the gnarly tread (my feet felt steady on mossy down climbs in Orderville Gultch, at the top of Angels Landing on a rainy day and on slick wet rock on the Inca trail), I love the full coverage of the shoe..my foot always feels safe and secure, and I have really liked the lacing system. They are pretty true to size for me (a more narrow Womens 10) but I do have a narrow foot and it has been so hard to find a hiking shoe to fit my long slim feet. Plus I usually wear a wool sock to take up any extra space. The water proofing hasn’t failed me yet and I’ve been hiking in them for over a year. I did replace the insoles right away with green super feet and have been perfectly supported. I felt so much pressure to find a hiking boot to protect my ankles but found that my knees were always sore without the free movement of my ankles. So I opted for a trail runner…So happy to find a sturdy and supportive trail runner to free my ankles and knees of aches and pains. I am forever devoted to the Speedcross 5!!
I really loved almost everything about these shoes. i took them on a 6 month backpacking trip to S America, so I was stuck with them after discovering the heel of the shoe dug incredibly hard into my heel-to the point that it wore a small cigarette-burn sized hole in the fabric/padding. Maybe it’s just my anatomy. But they were painful and bloody without moleskin. I tweeted Salomon, never heard back, but hopefully enough people have had the same problem that future designs are remedied-because it really is a great trail runner otherwise.
I’ve been looking for the perfect waterproof trail runner for months - bought (and returned) every brand out there and finally pre-ordered these new Solomon’s. When they finally arrived I knew they were “the ones.”. They fit right out of the box and are lightweight, definitely waterproof, and comfortable. I bought them to take on a trip to Ireland and England in order to pack only one pair of all-purpose running/hiking/walking shoes. These 5GTX’s are it. Highly recommend. True to size (9 M).
If you have a high arch and bad circulation these shoes are a must for you! Amazing support and comfort. Like wearing a pair of fleece lined slippers. First time feet have been warm in years! Easy on and off with drawstring laces! Love the look as well. Not clunky and heavy.
I'm no stranger to the speedcross and always rely on them for muddy terrain when I require a more aggressive lug - performance wise, I cannot fault them. But in regards to some of the upper material used, I am not a fan! This is the forts version of the speedcross I have found this issue with - let's face it, these trainers are going to get muddy! Very muddy! I take pleasure in looking after my kit, especially when paying a premium price for it. Very disappointed that after my run and hosing down my speedcross, the upper material appears to have locked the mud in and there is no way of cleaning this off! I think it looks terrible and have never had this problem with any other speedcross which have always cleaned up perfectly after a run. Picture taken was after first wear - and that is how I am stuck with them looking now!

I bought this late August last year I believe, before my backpacking trip to Big Pine Lakes in Mammoth. I also tryed it in Yosemite this month which is little snow and muddy I'm amaze how stable this shoes is. Best shoes I ever purchased very stable, grips, comfortable and no blisters after a long day hike. I recommend this shoes to my few friends that love to hike and now they own 2 of different salomon, they love it!!!
I know Salomon shoes from my Spartan Races . But it was 2 years ago. I bought new shoes for me and my husband for hiking in Colorado! We love those shoes, we were hiking in Black Double diamond steep mountain. Best shows u can dream for hiking. We love them . Great traction and super light and comfortable!!
I bought these shoes for trail running and hiking. They hug my feet and grip the terrain. My feet feel really secure even when running on muddy trails. A couple of weeks after I got them, I took them for a spin on a 10 miles trail in Northern Michigan and they were comfortable the entire time.
This is my second pair of SPEEDCROSS 5 GTX W. The first ones are a few years old and though not yet showing much wear, I plan to hit the trails in Utah soon to work on that, and I thought since I liked the purple color so much that it would be good to have a new pair on deck. Be warned these shoes run very large! I wear a 7, which I ordered and sent back for a 6.5; then sent back for a 6, which fit perfectly. I saw other reviews that said they run narrow. I have a wide foot, and the width is fine for me. They just run very large overall, so order at least a half size down if you like your shoes roomy, a full size down if prefer true to size.
I bought these for a Tough Mudder in Avondale, AZ and they were perfect for the occasion. No matter what shoes you buy: water, mud, and rocks WILL still end up in yours shoes in a Tough Mudder Event. However, the tread was perfect for walking through mud. I figured my shoes would be trashed after the event, but I rinsed the shoes thoroughly inside and outside with water and air dried outside and they are perfectly fine to use again. Definitely pay attention to Salomon's size guide. I usually wear a size 10 in regular tennis shoes but purchased a size 9 (according to the size guide) in this shoe and they fit perfectly. I will buy Salmon again!
