The best every day business casual shoe
Phenomenal, I've owned these shoes for a year and half now and I have never had a day I wasn't happy to be in them. Every material used is perfect for the shoe. Did you can avoid it, don't scrub them with soap and water. I recommend regularly conditioning the leather outer. It's not going to freak out if you don't l, but it makes the shoe past a ton longer if you do. The only thing I've had to replace is the laces. They gave out after a year or so, not a big deal whatsoever. I will wear these shoes till they slit in half, and then I will buy another pair. They are that good. (Pictures are a year and a half apart.
Very stiff upper but very comfortable sole.
First of all, REI- I was very disappointed in your shipping it took very long and my package of $130 shoes was very beat up. Just a plastic wrap around the original shoe box. Really?? Now for the shoe, the sole is very comfortable. I feel like I can jog in these shoes. However the upper is stiff. Particularly the tongue. After about two weeks, I still feel the pressure against my foot. For a $130 casual shoe, it should be comfortable right out of the box.
Had 1 year and the bottoms are tearing off already!
I wear them M-F Friday for the last 3 months and and every Saturday for a year and the bottoms are tearing off already? This is an expensive shoe to only last a year! Especially considering that I don't wear them a lot and do very little walking in them when I am wearing them!
Would not buy or recommend, shoe sole come off in two weeks
Within the first two weeks the rubber sole fell off. I reached out to Altra about it and they responded with a long list of questions. I respond over a week ago with no info back so far. Extremely disappointed in the shoe and customer service at this point.
Like everyone else - Please Make These Again
Been wearing these in the office (business casual) for over 2 years now, 3-5 days a week. Still holding up and the best office shoe I've ever had. Office, lunch walks, up and down stairs, rainy commutes on the bus, occasional on sight out of office work at the warehouse... been perfect for all. Average 6k-7k steps per day when worn. I tend to go with a barefoot shoe when outdoors but this shoe has the perfect amount of support and cushion for hard office floors and concrete while allowing my toes to do their job. Sometimes I'll wear a barefoot shoe at the office and I will feel the difference. On those hard floors and concrete I need some support. I cannot find an alternate brand and style that has all the features of the Cayd.
Please bring back the Cayds!
Favorite shoe ever! Nothing else like it on the market. I am a chiropractor and bought these for being active on my feet all day in the clinic. After falling in love with Altra width and zero drop, these were the best "business casual" solution. I was excited to wear them out, downgrade them to an after-work classy casual shoe, and buy a fresh pair for clinic. When they finally started to wear down a bit (1.5 years later), I was heartbroken to find they've been discontinued! Please please bring them back! I will order 5 pairs of black 12s to keep my feet happy for the next 7.5 years! I'm currently testing the Torin leather wides and it's just not the same!
My new favorite shoes
After buying a different Altra shoe with more athletic styling, I wanted a less athletic-looking leather shoe with the same foot shape, and Cayd is it. I don't feel the pain I usually experience with tapered or even straight toes. The amount of padding is just right. I can walk as fast in these shoes as my bad knees allow. I am a woman with wide feet, and I usually buy men's shoes for casual wear. A C-width women's shoe might fit a little better, but these shoes feel really good, and I can wear them with pants for any but formal occasions. The leather does not seem to get scuffed. Smooth leather on the top of the front of the shoe would be easier to wipe clean.
Best..Casual..Shoe..Ever....
I have been looking for a casual shoe for months that will not only offer me some support like that of a tennis shoe, but will also allow me to wear them with slacks, khakis, and jeans. When I saw these shoes from my favorite running shoe maker, I instantly purchased the brown color. When I got them in yesterday, I tried them on, and was blown away. They are literally a running shoe masked as a casual loafer. I could have easily gone out and ran a 10-miler in them. In terms of comparable comfort, I would put them up there with my Torins. The zero drop, and the signature wide toe box just makes this shoe all the more better.
Best purchase we made for our church missionary.
Our son is on his feet walking outdoors all day long. He needed a shoe that looked dressy so we went with this amazing shoe. His feet have never hurt one day and he's been alternating two pair of CAYDs for the past 16 months. His flat mates have expressed that their feet hurt everyday as they are putting in the same milage. He mentioned that they have also held up amazingly well. He said that he will get through his 2 year mission with these two pair and that the soles aren't nearly as worn down as the shoes of others who have been out as long as he has. He has worn them in cold weather and hot and they have been amazing!
Comfortable and stylish, well worth a buy.
I like Altra running shoes because of their wide "footshape" toe box. They're the rare brand that doesn't squeeze my toes too much. I was looking more for a casual walking shoe and found it with the Cayd. They broke in really quickly to become the most comfortable casual shoe I've worn in a LONG TIME. The style is handsome and inoffensive and they go great with any jeans or chinos. If you're looking for an all around great shoe, pick up the Cayd and you'll be glad you did.
