Good all-round shoe
I’ve had these shoes for just over a month now and ate very happy them so far. They are lightweight and versatile and hold up well to light “weather “ conditions (think spring wet grass and mud). They are great for walking the dog or going on a hike. I also like the toe box up front as they don’t pinch my toes yet provide a firm fit. Overall very satisfied.
Seems like a nice shoe, but really narrow
Narrow across the widest part of your foot. Toe box is roomy, and overall length is true to size, but if you don't have a narrow foot, then these might not fit well. Overall, it seems like a great shoe with nice looks and high quality materials. Too bad they were narrow. Btw, I have never had this problem and I've bought just about every brand of shoe that REI carries and always in the same size. I'm standard height/weight.
Good but runs small
I really like the shoe but I have to return them because they run small and up a half size isn’t available. The quality is good and I like that the toe doesn’t rise up but the size is just off. Good for a narrow foot but order a half size up.
Too tight
These shoes fit really tight around the top of my feet. I loosened them up as much as possible, and they were still painful to wear. They look nice, but I will need to return them.
They’re ok, but run short in sizing.
I ordered these hoping they could be a replacement for my current Astrals. Unfortunately, the shoes do not fit like a 13 and my toes were crammed into the end. I also came find the same soles as the Ramblers I have now which have just about shredded to pieces in less than a year. I truly miss the Hemp Donners. Best shoes I have ever owned. I still have two pairs of those. Though 5 and 3 years old now, I wore both every day for 2 years and they still have enough sole and body now I continue to use them on occasion. They have the stickiest, longest lasting soles I’ve ever seen on a shoe. I really wish Astral would bring the Hemp Donners back. I would buy 4 pairs. The current Astral line up just doesn’t compare.
Hey there Aaron - we're sorry to hear the Rovers didn't fit your needs. But we hope you'll be glad to hear that we just brought the Hemp Donner back in a 2.0 version!
A great find.
The fits great, a fantastic find, I definitely have a leg up on the competition. I enjoy the grip of the sole, the design is great and the feel is nice and snug.
The glue doesn’t glue!
The uppers are tough BUT the glue for the soles is rubbish - BOTH soles have come unstuck from the ball of the foot right through to the back of the arch.
Rugged shoe, but stiff sole
Overall, pleased with the purchase. Rugged upper, and good traction in Fall & Winter conditions (so far.) I've enjoyed my other Astral shoes over the years, especially the hemp Loyak, and the soles of these shoes are much more stiff than my other pairs. Time will tell if they just need more breaking in, or if that's just the way they are. That said, they feel well built, so I can return to this review in a year or two and give the report!
Great but for durability
Long time TR1Mesh wearer, I wanted a more causal shoe for our Portugal trip. River has similar wider toe box like TR1 with same AMAZING grip and zero drop. Durability is the downfall of all Astral shoes I’ve owned, so I wasn’t shocked when sole separated from body inside both arches (easily fixed with krazy glue). I bought the other two colors of Rovers on sale, my 6th & 7th pairs of Astrals. I do love them, just wish they lasted longer.
Go-To shoe for biking, hiking and exploring.
The Rovers have become my go-to shoe for hiking, biking and romping around in the woods and the mountains. I have spent a lot of time wearing Brewers for kayaking and I would use them for biking and hiking as well. I now really prefer the Rovers for biking and hiking because they are more sturdy, protect my toes when biking and keep dirt, sand and mud out better than the mesh of the Brewers.
