I bought this for for an all-day hike in the Norwegian mountains (Trolltunga) and I have no regrets! I've never had a proper hiking backpack before, but I've never hiked in mountains before, either. I was dead set on buying the 24L Cotopaxi Batac for this because I just love that brand. My husband convinced me to at least look at some pepper hiking backpacks, and I'm so glad he did. I wore the pack for about 9 hours and it was very comfortable. I had been using the Cotopaxi 16L Batac for a day peach, and honestly, carrying that around for a day in Oslo was uncomfortable. Carrying the much larger 32L Mira up and down the mountains was genuinely enjoyable. I'm so impressed and so happy with this pack! The back support is wonderful, and I never felt like I was carrying all the weight on my shoulders. My body thanked me the next day with not a single pain in my upper body at all. I lived all the pockets in this bag, too. At first I thought it would be too many, but then I actually packed for the trail and was pleased to be able to organize evening for easy access on the trail. My Samsung Galaxy S22 just barely fits in the hip belt pockets, but I just kept it in the pocket in my leggings instead so I could keep snacks in my hip belt pockets, and that was the right choice. The whole hydration unit works really well, and I appreciated the easy access. I didn't think I would like it strapped across my chest, but I actually did. I didn't use the trekking poles loops on mine, but my husband did on his Manta and he loved them. When selecting this backpack, I also tried the Gregory Jade, but adjusting the height was frustrating, and I actually couldn't get it tall enough for me. The back support on it just didn't compare to the Mira, either. I love this pack, and I am very excited for more adventures with it!
I bought this pack for a hiking trip to Scotland. It was excellent! Had plenty of room for all of my layers, accessories and food. I like how it has its own hydration pack pocket. All of the other pockets were organized and useful as well. The trekking pole loops were great. The pack was so comfortable on my back and easy to carry the weight I added even when hiking 4,400ft to the summit of Ben Nevis. Also liked the pockets on the waist belt, great for chapstick and other small items. I had the pack fitted at the REI store ahead of time which I also highly recommend doing to make sure all the straps and the adjustable suspension back are adjusted properly!
I posted a review here the other day, comparing the Osprey Mira 32 to the Deuter 30. I'm back because I forgot about one niggling little detail that really annoys me about the Osprey, but it's not bad enough to make me return it and keep shopping for a similar daypack. Mostly, I like the Osprey pack because I like the ease of accessing the contents via exterior zippered compartments. BUT, I forgot to mention one annoying user-unfriendly design flaw: The zippered side compartments on each of the two belt straps can NOT be opened or shut without taking the entire pack off - the compartment fabric bends as you tug to pull it shut and it just won't work. A surprising and silly design flaw; definitely a nuisance. If you're like me and need to access certain things in a hurry, this is a big pain.
Well constructed backpack with a comfortable fit. Especially like how all the compartments are divided and the room each one affords. Strong zippers and really good pulls on the zippers make access to all compartments a breeze. Well designed water bladder and drinking tube. Built-in rain cover is an added bonus. Compartment had enough room to store my rain poncho which made access super fast and easy when needed. Outside straps allowed the pack to be cinched tight so it could fit as a carry on in airplanes.
I needed a field pack to replace an ancient 30+ yr old pack that was just one big compartment. I was thrilled to discover a backpack that could be fitted to a short woman's torso. I'm just over 5' tall. It's comfortable and capable of carrying all that I need for a day in the field in warm weather, including water. It fits under the airplane window seat, too, where there was less width available. I did discover I can't wear a hat with a brim all around, as it bumps into the pack behind my head so I switched to a ball cap style. I can also rest the back of my head against the pack when using binoculars to view something overhead and up high! Lots of different compartments helped me organize my stuff to be readily available. No more digging around in the bottom of my okd pack! I have not tried fitting in extra winter necessities yet for field work, but it will be tight when the time comes I think. This will be an exercise in paring down. I love the way this pack fits me and is manageable.
Love the pack. I’ve had many packs over the years and this one is one is a perfect all-day day pack for me. I even trail run in it thanks to how well I can compress everything close to my body and the adjustable fit. But good lord Osprey - these hip belt pockets are soooo darn small. I am have a tiny little iPhone 12 MINI and it is all I can do to get my phone to be secure in the hip belt pockets - and even when I do, the hip belt pocket won’t zip shut. What the heck. This is super annoying and feels like an oversight from the design team. I would happily send my Mira 32 back to you if you’d make at least one of the hip pockets bigger for me - and I’d pay;) So: If you’re considering this pack, ask yourself if it matters to if if your phone fits in the most accessible pocket of the pack. And/or go try it out at the store and experiment with the hip pockets.
I had been eyeing this pack for a few months and finally gave in. Love the green color, like the hydration bladder, and all of the pockets for organization. I also appreciate that this bag came with a raincover (my Eja didn't.) My biggest frustration with this is the hip belt pockets. The zippers are terrible and won't close one handed. They're too far away to use two hands while wearing, so I have to take the pack off to re-close. This is my 2nd Osprey pack and they really need to work on their hipbelt zippers.
I purchased this backpack to replace one that was provided to me from the tour company that I booked a Turkey/Greece tour with. They provided an Osprey that was a little smaller and I wanted something a bit larger but not too large. This was perfect! I liked the various pockets and sections and the hydro pack that was included was clutch! The way that this "stands off" of your back allowing air movement so you don't sweat constantly is very nice. The straps to adjust how the pack sits on your pack (higher or a bit lower) is great. This backpack worked out wonderfully for my trip.
Bag of my dreams I LOVE FRONT POCKETS, I love the space and what I can pack! LOVE the separate place for your water bladder!
This is my go to pack, even when I don’t need one quite this large because it is so comfortable. I enjoy the side that I can access without taking the pack off. It is adjustable and durable. I am looking to buy another in case this one starts falling apart.
