Fantastic Travel Bag

Excellent bag for backpacking, day hikes, and travel. I prefer traveling minimally and with one bag, and this one does the trick. Just enough capacity for my packing style and it fits as a carry on for most airlines. It’s not too heavy and the frame and padding is comfortable when loaded. This was my main pack on a recent trip to Iceland and it performed flawlessly. Versatile for multiple days of trekking, holds up well in wet weather, and works great as a day pack walking around town. The fabric is super durable and still looks new after being chucked under buses, scrambling over rocks, and enduring rain and mud. Amazing value and excited to use this pack for years to come.

Great for the Camino de Santiago!

I love this Osprey 38 Kyte! It is super comfortable, and there is no pain in my shoulders or lower back. The belt fits snug too. There are so many pockets to put things in for a long hike. I'm using this bag to use on the Camino de Santiago next May, 2025. I couldn't be happier with my choice! I love the color too.

So glad I bought this

I panic-bought this pack to hike down into the Grand Canyon Bright Angel Train (~8 miles) after struggling to fit my stuff into a 32 liter pack that was going on 10 years old. I’m 5’2 and 115 and after 5 plus hours hauling 23 pounds my shoulders and back weren’t bothering me at all. I couldn’t believe it. I don’t know anything about backpacking and gear but I know this worked and am writing this review for any other folks out there who want to not hate themselves after carrying way too much stuff on a hike they didn’t adequately prepare for.

Great pack

Love this backpack! Used it for the Camino de Santiago (the French route) from France to the west coast of Spain and it was absolutely perfect, carried it the whole way with no issues. Continued to use it for further travel and also didn't have any trouble with it as an overhead carry-on for different European airlines.

Great pack, comfortable and well designed

Love this pack. I used it on a multi-day hut trip and it was great. It’s not an ultra-light pack so adds some weight but is well designed and pretty comfortable, even when quite full. I think it would work for 1-2 night backpacking trips, though in bear country it would be tough to fit gear + a bear canister. I’d likely have to use a larger pack in those conditions.

Superior

Versatile and thoughtful women’s bag. Most comfortable and accommodating. Light weight not missing any function excellent storage. I would’ve liked to see a hydration system but there’s room to add one.

Good pack, but heavy!

I used this pack for a portion of the Via Francigena, as well as my 9th Camino, the Primitivo (second time doing this one!). I wanted to try it out, as the new Sirrus doesn’t have the same adjustable frame as my old one does - the new style only has 5 adjustment points and none of them worked for me. The Kyte has a fully adjustable frame, so I chose it in spite of it being a heavier pack than I wanted. I don’t want an ultralight pack, as it gets hot walking in Spain and I like the pack being off my back. My concern about weight was valid - at almost 4 lbs, it takes up a third of the total weight I want to carry! The pack itself is durable, but it was just too heavy overall compared to other bags. While on the trail, I wished many times, that I had kept looking for a lighter bag!

Great bag

Great bag!! Downsized for overnight/weekend trips from a 70l Dueter that I’ve been using for 20+ years (it’s still in good shape too - I’ll keep it for longer trips!) and have no complaints. Very comfortable and spacious, love the main space accessibility without having to empty the pack.

Replacement for previous Kyte 34

This bag was supplied as a replacement under the Osprey lifetime guarantee. The previous model was bag used by my wife for our longer expeditions, but several of the webbing straps broke. This replacement Kyte 38 has yet to be used (Christmas and family have got in the way of longer walks), but is an improved design featuring a number of design tweaks, and she looks forward to using it in the months to come.

My Go-To Mid-Size Pack

I really loved this pack. I’ve taken it on two hiking trips so far (both hotel-based, so no sleeping system to carry), and it handled everything beautifully (I had lots of extra space as I hand washed my clothes every day). The fit was excellent — super comfortable with great ventilation, and it stayed stable even on longer hikes (15mi/day with 20lb). I also love all the pockets and gear loops — it’s easy to organize and quickly grab what you need on the trail. The color is great too! It does run a bit heavier than some other packs in this size range, but I’m happy to trade that for the comfort and structure it provides. The only minor drawback is that it’s tricky to grab a water bottle from the side pockets without taking the pack off. I use a hydration bladder, though, so that didn’t bother me much. I ended up returning it only because I was gifted the same pack by someone else — but otherwise, I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it for day hikes or light overnights.
