I really liked the size. I'm a 5'4" woman and can stand while bent over to put on my pants. I took it out for a weekend with my dog and thought it was the perfect size for us and our stuff. I was also pleased at how easy it was to put up and take down. My biggest complaint is that the zippers would catch on the cloth most of the time. And then the door window is so weird. You have to unzip the bottom to unzip the outside... Because the net is on the inside. Not sure if that makes sense the way I've described it, but it definitely feels like a puzzle when you wake up and just want to take a quick peek out the window.
The idea of a tent with 4 covered walls and an open roof is brilliant. This would be even better if it was half the weight. Too often we see ultra light tents that are perfect for stargazing, but need the rain cover for any privacy (blocking off all visual and preventing star gazing). I would love to see this same tent idea applied to an ultralight. I understand that the fabric is half of what makes the tent lighter weight, but I feel the overall weight could be brought down by using lighter material for the poles or making them thinner. However if you do not need to carry this tent any distance then I highly recommend it.
I love love love this tent. This was given to me as a gift for all of my weekend field trips and car camping trips with my friends. I wasn't worried about weight or having too much room, so I went with this. I used it for the first time this weekend and I am so satisfied! This tent was incredibly easy to set up and stayed that way through the wind that we were experiencing. It didn't budge! We didn't get any rain, but I know that this tent is waterproof which is great, and I won't need to worry about that. I love how large the doors are, and the fact that they are on either side and can be rolled and tucked out of the way! And my most favorite part, of course, is the mesh roof. This tent is cute, fun, and easy to rely it. It's very roomy for a 2-person tent compared to most others. It's the perfect car camping tent!
Bought this tent on July 31 to use on my ride to Sturgis SD. Saw it set up in the store in Rancho Cucamonga so that made my purchase decision easy. Very roomy for two people although I was going solo to this event It will work great for my wife and I on future trips. The two large entry points were great, made it easy to get in and out or access items from outside of the tent without having to climb inside. Its size and weight were for trips on my motorcycle. Setup is fast and simple, the provided stakes worked great even in some hard ground. Experienced several periods or heavy rain with high winds while in Sturgis and the tent did not disappoint. It was rock solid in the wind. On one occasion after about an hour of extremely heavy rain I noticed a small very intermittent drip from the pocket the support pole slides through on the rain fly. It only did this on one occasion. I'm sure some seam sealant will solve this minor issue. Looking forward to using this tent a lot!
I needed a tent that has a smaller footprint for camping with Scouts/large groups where space is a premium. This tent stood out-The sale price was in line with Walmart tents and the quality is leaps better. I like the size and layout of this tent and it is bigger than I thought. Set up and take down are simple and it all fits in a bag. This is not sold as a backpacking tent nor is it even close, so not sure why some complain about weight, etc.? Doors/window flaps are a bit goofy and the poles with their fixed elbows can get in the way when folding. Otherwise- perfect for my needs.
My Wrangler is parked next to me anywhere I camp, and this tent is perfect if you camp the same way. It may be heavy and cumbersome when packed, but it's worth it once you set it up. Definitely designed with the camper in mind.
Not too many reviews here on this newer product so I thought I'd help out. As part of REI's new "evergrn" brand, this tent is being heavily promoted and was set up (and was the only tent set up) in two local stores that I visited. If you want to see this, good chance you could see it at your local REI, setup, before you buy. I tried it in the store before buying. I am a twenty-something who hasn't camped in probably a decade. I didn't want something too big because 1- it's just me and 2- Storage space in car and in my small-ish apartment. For this reason I was initially drawn to backpacking tents...but the more I looked the more I wasn't sure that I wanted to pay the premium for a tiny tent, since I was "car camping." I seem to be the exact demographic this tent was designed for ;-) Things I liked in my "shopping" phase. • having a fun/unique design. Reminds me more of an enlarged backpacking tent (in some ways) than the venerable dome tent. • More usable floor space and higher center height than most 2P dome-style tents. (Bigger domes have better "stand-up" room, but I don't want a huge tent!) • nice usable rectangular interior space • 'dat skylight! I haven't camped with this yet -- only picked it up yesterday -- but I have set it up in my living room. Here are a few things I like and dislike so far, after setting it up 2x at home: Likes: • Sturdy Poles • Big Sky View • Two Doors • One-person setup-able • Carrying bag is large enough to "stuff" the tent back into (I gave up after second attempt at folding). Dislikes / Worries: • Rain fly is a little fiddly and especially if it starts raining in the middle of the night, it's going to be unpleasant to scramble out of the tent and get the "roof" attached. (To be fair most backpacking-style tents share a similar design of upper-mesh. I guess I'm used to dome tents with 1-2 dinky windows and an optional rain fly) • They make a big deal about it being "2" poles, and I wondered how that could be since it's 2xArches and 2xCross bars. The answer is that the cross-bars are permanently attached to the arch-bars. So you end up with these awkward 3D poles that feel permanently tangled when collapsed, and especially when you're pulling them out of the pole bag. I think I would have preferred having 4 poles instead, it would have made the setup ever-so-slightly more difficult but overall easier to deal with. • Speaking of poles, the rain fly has a pole in the center that's permanently attached to one side. I don't like! There's a sleeve to thread the other side through, and you have to do this weird ninja move to slide it through the sleeve before you snap the poles together. Then it's hard to fold up the rain-fly because you have a collapsed pole rattling around in the center. Would prefer a detached pole -- maybe make it a different color. • For some reason (Again...probably from a lifetime of dome tent camping) I thought there was an option for the whole door to be mesh, but it's just that triangular flap at the top (Or open the door completely). • Speaking of the vent in the door, the way you open it is a little odd (You can see in the video). You have to unzip the bottom of the mesh, then unzip the nylon flap (Which flaps to the outside), and re-zip the bottom of the mesh. Looking at the construction of the tent I can see why this was necessary, but I would have taken a slightly smaller vent "inset" into the door if it meant less zipping. It also would have made the "flap" flap to the inside. • They printed the instructions on a nylon flap and sewed this to the top of the stuff bag. The flap is forever in your way when you're trying to put the tent away! Other notes: • In addition to the mesh pockets in each corner, there are several "hooks" throughout the upper portion of the tent. None top-dead-center like you might find in a dome tent, but around the periphery. I'll count them the next time I put this up. • There are extra clips top-and-center, presumably for the rain fly (They're too small to clip around the main poles) but these are not noted in the instructions. I'll update this review (or post another?) after I get a chance to use this tent outdoors!
I love this tent. Its simple to put together and pretty sturdy, although I only used it when it wasn't windy. I like the fact that the rain fly can be attached for quick access, but rolled out of the way when the weather is nice. My reason for not rating this a 5 is simply because REI does not make a footprint for this tent. Give it a footprint and I'll give it 5-stars.
Finally got to use this tent this past weekend. It was easy to set up and take down. Large enough for a queen size air mattress, with just enough room left for your bags, wouldn't recommend using queen, a full would have worked better. Great view at night with the rainfly off or rolled back. Wish it has some ventilation lower on the sides. Happen to also rain when I used the tent. Rainfly worked great, inside tent was dry, other than the water I tracked in getting in and out. Would be nice if it had a custom footprint, but I can understand why they don't offer one.
This tent has been perfect! Set up is incredibly simple as is getting all the pieces back into the bag. A blow-up, queen-sized mattress will fit, but you'll be left with only a foot or so of room at one end. There aren't any issues closing up the sides with it in there, though. Overall, nice quality and easy to use.
