The darkroom technology does make the tent feel cooler and blocks the light. Unfortunately, the coating rubs off on hard surfaces including the hub for the tent poles. Keep anything hard away from the sides, as blowing wind will cause the material to rub up against it (maybe cover the tent pole hub with something). The instant set-up is fast and convenient, especially for a 10-person tent. However, the slightest breeze will cause the poles to fall, collapsing the tent. You must keep the rain fly on and the guy lines straight to maintain the integrity of the tent. This cannot double as a stand-alone screen room; it needs the rain fly.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] From my first impressions, this is an absolute unit! Very high quality, well built and most impressively, super spacious. I can’t wait to take this bad boy out camping when spring comes around. I’ve been watching several Youtube videos reviewing this exact model and it looks absolutely a pleasure to camp with setup being super easy. If you want to camp in luxury, a Coleman tent is where you want to be, and this instant tent setup is an absolute pleasure.
Two poles on the back do not extend or telescope. This probably explains how they were installed incorrectly D-Pole was flipped 180 degrees. This made the back of the tent not stand up straight. Design suggestion. Do not use the black elastic covers on the hinge points. It gets caught in the hinge during installation and makes it very challenging to fold the legs back over. It also makes it less clear how the mechanism is supposed to work.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you’ve ever been camping and had to set up a tent then you know some can be challenging. This large Instant 10 Person Tent by Coleman takes away all the frustrations of setting up camp. This large tent has instant set up and is ready to go in about a minute. I like it’s large size to where it can easily accommodate 4 Queen Size air mattresses. This tent also has a room divider if your looking for privacy. This tent has some incredible features that keeps water out, keeps the inside cooler on hotter days, and has a screened porch. My favorite thing about this tent is that it blocks out 90% of sunlight with its dark room technology. Overall this is a magnificent tent and can be used all year long.
Originally got this to help our growing family (needed room for our Rotweiler, German Shepherd, and two boys under 4). We have really got our moneys worth out of this.. Lots of stand up room (I’m 6’), space for our pack n play, cot, and queen size air mattress for my queen. The blackout has been nice for the babys’ naps (with sound machine and Coleman hanging fan/light. All that being said, I am back on this sight to find a replacement for the rain tarp. It has worn after all the use (Coleman: if you could help direct me that would be awesome). Also, living in KS, we have been hit with some pretty viscous unexpected winds, and have needed to tie it down quickly. If you properly orient this tent with wind direction, and stake down hard, this tent is sturdy. (If you don’t the poles and side may bonk ya). Fair disclosure I set up my tent and waterproof/ scotch guard my stuff at the beginning of each year; it has kept us dry in some good Kansas storms. I would recommend this to any family looking to camp.
In a year, with only 3 uses, the dark room technology layer is peeling in multiple places. The walls also do not hold straight, especially with the door pole in the front, resulting in rain seeping.
Do NOT buy this tent! It looks super cool online (and in person when it's functional) and the blackout technology works, but we after 3 uses that cool blackout film is bubbling and peeling from all tent surfaces. Not only that, but it will not stand up on its own without the rain fly and lines staked to the ground at all times. If you're able to extend all poles (not a guarantee with this design) you won't have to wait long for one side to begin collapsing. This was my growing family's first tent (family of 4) and I can't trust the coleman brand for my next purchase. I can't believe I didn't see these types of reviews before making my purchase. Now that I've had these issues it seems like it's more common with this tent than I thought.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Not only does it have the ability to hold 4 queen sized beds, it’s also made with dark room technology that makes it easy to put kids to bed early or sleep in late! This thing makes camping so cozy! I received this product free from Influenster to test, and already can’t wait to go camping! The instant set up really makes it a great tent that sets up in 60 seconds so you can enjoy the great outdoors
Received this tent in the mail today 7/13/23. Set up in backyard to try out and collapsed during gust of wind. Planned on taking this tent up for a 10 day trip to Maine. Thank god I set it up before then or else my trip would’ve been ruined. Material wasn’t that great and some of the guy lines were missing hooks. Also there was a hole in the top fabric. Poor quality management!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] What a nice tent has lots of room and space really does keep the light out well. Also super easy set up very easy took about 25 minutes total with unpacking reading instructions and setting up I’m very excited to try it this summer unfortunately for now all I could do was set it up and take it down as I live in Maine and it’s far to cold to go camping right now.
