Found these shoes very stiff. I use these shoes for fast hiking, rock scrambling. Have worn the XA Comp 7 in the past and found those to be great for my needs. These were such a good buy, I thought I'd give them a try. Not for me! The XA Comp 7 were like a glove with breathability and a good tread. These are too stiff for me and I find myself tripping over my feet! Will stick with the same product line next shoe buy! Gave 4 stars as the shoe is def a good shoe, just doesn't fit my needs. Depends on what you're looking for in a shoe I guess.:)
I have worn these for one month. I would rate them much higher if the lacing system was different. It causes bad pressure points across the forefoot and proximal mid foot. There is no way to selectively tighten the shoe. TO get the heel to stay snug, the circulation is cut off in the forefoot. Laces have slid out numerous times. I have been tripped twice and had to stop running at least 3 times per run. It is a shame because the shoe itself might be great. I love my other Solomens. I have been wearing their hiking shoes for years. I'm a surgeon and I wear them in the OR. Best shoes I have ever worn. So I am very bummed about these trail shoes.
Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. The Quicklace system has proved a very popular feature with trail runners for its simplicity and ease of use. It is a single component lace system with only one lace locker, however coupled with the SensiFit technology it ensures a snug firm hold around the foot. The Salomon Speedcross Vario 2 is a slightly more narrow fitting option, and features a traditional lace rather than the Quicklace system. The Varios out sole is ideal for a range of surfaces and also has the SensiFit technology to provide a firm hold around the foot. Once again we thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback about the products, and please reach out to us directly if there is anything we can ever help with.
I have purchased several Salomon Trail Running Shoes and been very satisfied with them right out of the box. I currently wear the Salomon X Ultra Mid Hiking boot which I wore for a 7 day hike through the mountains of Peru, very comfy. However this is the most uncomfortable tech shoe I've ever purchased. It's not too small or too big, just uncomfortable. Tried wearing it around the house to break it in, then outside for first time did a 4 mile easy hike, ended up with blisters. I never have blisters. Sorry I must return them.
I was looking for a shoe that I could wear for casual wear, walking and biking. I need a supportive shoe due to arthritis. This shoe has done me well. It took me a bit to get used to the quick lace system, but once the pulls loosened up a bit I really like it. Would be nice to have a bit more padding added on top of the support.
Purchased for someone with a size 5 foot, these at 5 run large believe it or not! These trail shoes offer terrific support and traction for all-day rough-and-tumble day hikes. Sadly had to return them due to the lace pulls being both nearly impossible to operate from new, we thought these would loosen up after a few hikes but did not happen. Here in the house we have 3 other pair of Salomons with the same mechanism, no problems with them at all and for many years of experience with them no issues, this pair just had defective mechanisms on both shoes (surprising!). Also pay attention: just because the model is "XA Pro 3D" does not mean they are waterproof as these definitely were not. All other "XA Pro 3D" shoes we've bought (2 others) were waterproof, I assumed that was a given... not. They have to be the "XA Pro 3D WP" or the "XA Pro 3D GTX" if you can find it, well live and learn I guess. Our most recent Mens XA purchase have a GoreTex liner, can't seem to find the same in Women's (only see WP= Climashield whereas GTX=GoreTex) on the REI site. I can find GTX in Men's but not Women's on the REI site.
I normally where a 6.5-7. I orderd a 6.5 and they were gigantic. I look like I am wearing clown shoes. I can't speak to their function because obviously I can't wear them unless I plan on dressing up like a clown. They look pretty though.
I've been wearing XA Pro's for years now and they are my absolute go to trainer for running, trail running, work outs, hikes, day to day. They fit well, last well and give my feet great support.
I've been wearing this style since 2007 for hiking and trail running. They provide good support on uneven trails and the rubber provides the grip I need to navigate rocky terrain. I've never gotten a blister and unless the trail is super rocky, the cushion protects the balls and heels of my feet. I am disappointed that the older style with more rubber over the toes has been phased out. My big toes take a serious beating and that extra rubber helped - would love to have that back! The color combinations are also getting pretty awful so I stick to plain black.
The design is poor. The part that touches your heel wore out quickly - there is a point halfway down your heel where the padding stops and doesn't continue to the base of the heel. Subsequently your heel rubs on this edge.break in the padding. Eventually this wore out the fabric and padding and now my heel has plastic shoe support digging into it. I stopped wearing these, but for a while I had to put extra padding or bandaids on my heels to keep from getting blisters. Have had these for about 2 years now, wore out shortly after 1 year. Pretty disappointed
I have owned multiple pairs of Salomons, including five pairs of these XA PRO 3D W sneakers. They are my daily shoes that I do everything from basketball, trail hiking, walking, climbing trees and doing errands while wearing! They are even stylish enough for casual outings! I had five major foot surgeries in my teens that resulted in loss of a bone and tendon in my foot. I have also sustained numerous MCL sports injuries over the years. With these sneakers, nothing holds me back! They are the most comfortable sneakers I have ever owned and they provide stability for the feet and knees plus breathability. I don't understand the reviewer who said that these sneakers "stink". I have owned multiple pairs of these and I have never experienced foot odor with these sneakers. Submerging sneakers in water or mud could cause odor to occur with any non-waterproof shoe, but usually foot odor is a result of one's diet, so if she is eating refined sugar, grains, dairy, yeast and processed food, the issue is her gut flora, not the sneaker! These sneakers can take rain and lightly soggy or muddy trails- just don't submerge them or get the insides wet. Although I do own a pair of Salomon hiking shoes, these XA PRO 3D W perform just fine if I forget to switch into my hiking shoes for a moderate trail. These shoes last, too! After one year of daily wear, people will constantly tell me, "Your sneakers look brand new"! (See photo of a pair that I wore for over a year)
