I was skeptical about them coming from liking Merrell a lot, but now I LOOOOVE them and always end up choosing them over my other shoes. The bottoms are so perfect for the small rocks that tend to get stuck in the grooves of my other shoes. Did a 10 mile hike in them the other day - no blisters, no weirdness. Love the laces that tuck up under the tongue of the shoe. Great grip for running through different kinds of terrain. I'm now a dedicated follower. Cushy, but not bulky/heavy. So glad I tried something new.
These shoes were perfect for my camping and hiking trip along the Pacific Coast Highway. Super comfortable, gripped the rocks, dry quickly and keep my feet cool. Great hiking shoes by day and then simply loosen the single lace system and they are the best camp slipper ever. I loved never having to tie my shoes. My other hiking shoes required double knots to stay tied and would still require adjusting on the trail. Back in Texas we have a lot of mud and clay. The widely spaced lugged sole keeps the bottoms from clogging solid with the muddy/clay. Slap the soles together and all dirt falls right out.
After trying on MANY shoes I purchased the Salomon Speedcross 3 shoe. I was planning to walk the West Highland Way in Scotland. The Salomon Speedcross shoes were awesome. Many of the hikers I encountered did suffer some sort of foot wear over the hike duration..blisters etc. My feet were fine. Even when it rained all was good. A pair of wool socks kept my feet warm and the shoes because of their material dried out very quickly. They are light and flexible which kept my feet from getting tired. The traction on the dirt and bramble was fine. I would definitely recommend this type of shoe over a heavy hiking boot.
I prefer light weight shoes for day hikes unless it's ankle/knee deep snow. They were with me when I did Whitney in 2012 as a day hike. Now the soles are kind of worn because the grab isn't so good anymore. Just bought a new pair. If you don't have feet too narrow or ankles too weak and don't do backpacking or multi-day hikes, I recommend these. I also buy them half size bigger than my street shoe size to accommodate swelling. I also recommend toe socks if you have the tendency to get blisters between toes like I do. They are pricey but worth the investment, like my blue Superfeet.
When it comes to shoes I am the most challenging to please. I have had 7 foot surgeries and suffer from a lot of nerve damage. With the help of these shoes I am climbing mountains again! I can go anywhere in them. It doesnt matter if im at work, walking down the street, going to the mall or climbing my local trail I wear these shoes. I am constanly asked by people what brand they are because they really stand out being so brightly colored! And when my 7 month old puppy accidently chewed the laces off REI was quick to find me replacement laces!
I bought these shoes because I couldn't afford day-hiking shoes AND running shoes. I do a lot of both, so I compromised! Loving these so far. They grip the trail like no other, breathe fantastically considering the cushioning, and the bright green means people see me coming a mile away. Also, the fact that I don't have to worry about my shoes coming untied is a plus. The sizing guide is quite accurate for these shoes; I usually wear size 7 or 7.5 wide, and it said I should buy the size 7. To my surprise, they fit just right--with two bunions and flat feet, comfortable shoes are extremely difficult to find--although they are more snug in the heel than what I'm used to. However, I have found that to be a good thing since it keeps my feet much more stable than any previous running shoes I've had.
I love these shoes!!! The Salomon Speedcross 3 trail running shoes make your feet feel like they are walking/hiking/running on clouds!! I have high arches and these shoes provide enough support. I have been wearing them all winter hiking and running trails; have run a couple 12 mile trail runs in them. The first race did leave a blister on my big toe (from rubbing on the side of my toe) BUT it poured down rain for a majority of that race and these shoes are not waterproof. Last 12 mile race--no problems!! I have worn these on the road (probably not the best thing for these shoes) and love running in them. I am a nurse and have worn these shoes for a 12 hour shift; my feet and body feel great after 12 hours in these shoes!! In terms of size, I usually wear 7 1/2 in road running shoes, but am comfortable in size 7 with these even with thick winter socks. Also, love the lacing system. I pretty much wear these shoes every day b/c they are so darn comfortable!!!!
I usually use Mizuno wave runners (they have been my standard), a road running shoe, but since at least 1/4 of my running is terrain, I've been looking for a comparable trail shoe for over a year now. These are it- Comfortwise, the insole is comparable to my Mizuno's. Running wise, they are slightly heavier, the sole is stiffer (not a bad thing here) and I love the traction. They say that are water resistant- think cutting through a field with light dew, but nothing more. Thus far I've really enjoyed them (I've only had them for 2mo). There have already been many times when I think "if I had my other shoes on right now I'd have to slow down or I'd be falling down". With these I've been able to charge up and down snowy and muddy slopes without worrying my feet will go out from under me, and most importantly they don't hurt my feet!!!
I have owned these trail runners for 2 months and already both soles have come off starting at the front of both shoes--very disappointing! Currently, I have taped them but I highly doubt that will hold for very long. All I have done is a mixture of trail running and hiking--for $125 I expect (much) more longevity. The traction is (still) phenomenal; exactly what I was looking for hiking and trail running in the White Mountains. The shoes, socks, feet also dry quickly when wet. However, when I got the shoes very wet during a river crossing and had another 8miles back to the car, the insoles curled up under my toes. While I did not get blisters continuing to run, it was very uncomfortable. I wish they remained sturdy, even when wet. Bottom line: great lightweight pair of trail runners at first glance, but unacceptable that soles come off after only a few week's usage. The only reason I cannot give this product 5 stars (of even close to five stars).
Bought this for when I don't want to deal with steel shank backpacking shoes, and for running during Boston's icy, snowy winters. Goretex is great for puddles/snow, but a little sweaty otherwise for good weather running. Great traction on snow/ice. Runs large- I usually wear a 6.5 mizuno, and found a women's 6 a tad large in the heel and forefoot. Would buy a 5.5 if available. Will update review when I try it out on some rocky hiking trails!
