I read every review on every site on this jacket before buying the Beta insulated. I only really do resort skiing with some easy hiking. I wanted a jacket for skiing that was warm and insulated because I don’t like wearing a lot of mid layers. I’ll be skiing in Montana and will update my review with how it does there with lows in the 10-20 degrees F. People mention that the jacket is “noisy” but it doesn’t bother me. It swishes no louder than my north face rain jacket or Canada goose shelburne. I’m 5’6” and around 125-130lb and bought an XS. I usually wear a small in tops or coats but sized down based on reviews and it fits great. This was my first arc’teryx purchase and I bet it won’t be my last
This jacket is nice and well made with many good features. But there are a few things that I question. I found the fit a little odd. It seems like there is a lot of extra space in the stomach area. So the jacket poofs out a bit there and it is unflattering. Not a big deal if ski layers are involved but it’s weird for city wear. The material is warm and lightweight but very noisy and swishy for lack of a better term. There is no ski pass pocket which seems ridiculous. This is a small feature that would make it more versatile. It also has a two way zipper which I know a lot of people like, but they are fussy even if it’s a great quality zipper. Overall it’s a nice jacket but I’m not sure the targeted use. It’s like a ski jacket that refuses to be a ski jacket. There are other really quality jackets out there that fit better for less money.
Very nice jacket and warm but breathable, gorgeous green color but it is noisy. To move around in it, move your arms it makes a crinkle noise. But likely driving in the car it didn’t bother me, maybe because I was listening to music loud. That’s the only negative besides it being expensive. I did keep it though, it’s beautiful and gets the job done.
I bought this for my girlfriend for her cold weather activities such as hiking, walking the dog, cross country skiing and snowshoeing and the occasional trip to the brewery. She absolutely loves it and it’s her go to jacket.
Would appreciate a slightly longer length that covers the back.
Excellent waterproof jacket, beautiful design and very warm.
Tight in the shoulders, short arms and baggy torso.
