My 2019 Patera Parka jacket had a durable zipper slider, small chain/teeth and metal zipper-end stop lock; this new one from 2025 design uses cheap, rough-feeling plastic zipper end stop lock with a chain that snags easily. The most critical failure is the removal of the under-zipper fabric guard. This means the zipper is constantly exposed, catching on skin or clothes, which is unsafe and dramatically reduces the jacket's lifespan. While the fit and warmth are exceptional, the faulty, fragile zipper makes this a significant risk. Until the core durability issue and safety flaws are addressed, I cannot recommend purchasing this coat.
I love this brand but I hate so many things about this coat. Pros: stylish, nice silhouette for a city slicker. Waterproof is verified. Great Hood. Cons: Freezing cold it's hard to believe this is 700+ fill. It's the same warmth as if the shell had a thin lining (no fill). Pockets. First, the lack of pockets. Why no external chest pocket, interior drop pockets. But my main pocket gripe is that my hands barely fit into the hand pockets. Let alone share the pocket with any objects like keys or hand warmers. The opening to the pockets is small too. In the pouring rain, the design results in water being funneled into the pockets of your hands are in them.
My husband got me this jacket in 2018 so have worn it now for several years. I do not think it’s warm enough, especially for the cost! I need something super warm for frigid days in Chicago and this jacket is not warm enough to just stand waiting for a train. I’m cold in this jacket without a base layer in 30 degree temps. I’ve tried on the newer jacket model and I like the older style better. Seems arc teryx removed the wrist cuff which is one of the things I like about the model I have. I’m currently searching for a warmer jacket that will withstand frigid Chicago winters where you’re not always walking at a brisk pace to keep warm.
Half of me wants to give this parka 5*: in snow or wintry rain, this jacket keeps me warm and sheltered walking my dog during the winter. The other half of me gives the parka 1*: the zipper has always been sticky but for most of this winter it won’t unzip. I’ve been stepping in and out of the jacket like a sleeping bag. Yesterday, the middle of the zipper burst open and won’t zip. For the price, I expected much better durability.
I purchased the 2022 model regular long model and the 2025 slim fit grey. The slimfit is beautiful and has an amazing ifit, however it is not warm and does not have same quality of down on sides and lower length, very thin layer, which is a shane. For a UK raining weather with a 10C that should be fine. It is expensive and a investment so snce I want a warmer coat, I kept the 2022 model. I wll buy the new model in the future but for a mid season purpose and if they have a beige/tan color. There is nothing wrong with a nice old beige every day stunning slim fit knee length stylish jacket.
This parka was the true MVP of a recent trip to the subfreezing European Christmas markets. I often wore it open during the day and zipped it up below 35°. The exterior shell is slightly coarse which helps expel the more sticky and viscous grease and liquids. The internal pocket was perfect for cash and cards. The exterior slash pockets have a cozy and warm lining. I'm usually an M but I bought an L to accommodate chunky wooly top layers. The cut of the sleeves is trim so if you're ripped and wearing lots of layers it's a tight fit in the arms. But you really don't need heavy layers in this coat. It's warm enough. When my luggage was lost in Amsterdam I flipped out that my Patera was gone for good! Fortunately, we were reunited. It's a coat built for making great memories.
It’s great for heavy rain or snow and lightweight for travel, but not that warm. You need to put lots of layers underneath.
While the silhouette and length are appreciated on my 5'11" frame, I'm disappointed with the warm and insulation (or lack thereof) this jacket provides. I also feel like the size small is a touch smaller than industry standards. Had I tried this jacket on in-store rather than online, I would not have purchased it. Glorified fall jacket, at best. No way this jacket will keep me warm in the Toronto winters. For the cost, a total bummer.
I love this jacket and am waiting for the moment Arcteryx will introduce such a city/ commuting insulated shell jacket in a shorter (more modern) version. Since the Beta insulated jacket has too many tech features and too high chin guard and too large helmet hat for commuting. So a design like the Ralle insulated jacket for men in a women's version would be great and very wanted in my region!
For the last 13+ years I have worn a beloved Canada Goose Parka, but this year I was looking for something less heavy and bulky for outdoor activities. I wanted something light, waterproof, insulated, and a similar length (mid-thigh or knee). Although it checked all the boxes for me, I was hesitant to purchase this jacket because I had read some reviews that simply said it wasn’t warm enough. I can easily attest that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I live in New England and walk about 1 mile every morning before 6 am, and even in 0 degree weather, I can feel myself start to sweat a little about halfway through my walk. I also wore this on a recent expedition to Antarctica where weather averaged around 20-30F and we saw a lot of precipitation, and with appropriate layers, I stayed perfectly warm and dry. PROS: - Gortex makes it reliably waterproof and windproof. At this point, I have worn it many weather conditions and have not been disappointed by its performance. - Extremely light. At less than 2 lbs, this coat doesn’t weigh me down. It also packed down easily to fit in my suitcase, making it great for travel. - Grey goose down with synthetic down in areas prone to moisture is still incredibly warm for me, even when I’m not being active. Again, hard to believe how warm it is considering how light it is. - Longer length. At around 5’5” this hits just below my knees. - Minimalistic silhouette looks sleek and smart. CONS: - Price. However, for me, it was well worth it. - Length. This is a minor detail for me. Again, although I specifically wanted something longer, I wish it didn’t hit quite so low on me. - Pockets. A lot of critique on the pockets which is more nuanced but yes, I wish the hand pockets were slightly larger (I personally don’t need more pockets, as others have mentioned). I have not had any zipper issues. I also wonder if people who didn’t find it warm enough don’t layer appropriately in more extreme conditions. I’m not a hardcore outdoor winter enthusiast, but I do travel a lot during the winter and I own a few quality wool and synthetic layers. This jacket has been the perfect addition to my winter wardrobe. I personally find it comfortable and warm when layered appropriately and I feel it will be a reliable travel piece for future adventures.
