not the quality I expect from Arcteryx
I was disappointed by this jacket and will be returning it, though I debated keeping it because it is cute, but that doesn't justify the price and closet space. The quality of the material seems poor, it is rough and feels cheap to the touch. Based on the description I thought it would be like the Atom, but the material feels stiffer. The insulation inside is visible through the purple colour shell fabric which also makes it look cheap. The cut is odd, very wide at the bottom although there is a drawstring I am skeptical of its warmth due to the high cut and width. Overall, it is very much a fashion piece as opposed to functional for outdoor activities.
Smart design, super warm
I love this jacket. The short length isn’t right for everyone or every activity, but I appreciate how it makes for a super warm layer while cutting down significantly on the bulk. The face fabric is durable, perfect for more abrasive activities like camping, carrying firewood, throwing skis on your shoulder, etc. The high loft synthetic insulation keeps me plenty toasty on 20-degree-F mountain mornings, and the flap-covered kangaroo pocket allows me to drop in and retrieve my phone or keys without having to fuss with a zipper or take off my gloves. I’m a husky 5’10”, height all in my femurs, and the size Large fits like a dream, hitting mid-hip. I’d totally buy another one in case they stop making it — if I could afford it, haha. If you understand what you’re getting, and it’s right for you, this jacket is an absolute win.
Elec SV 1/2 Zip Neck - fail
Unfortunately, I had to return the jacket. I was really looking forward to this online purchase but it didn't live up to my expectations. The jacket is really short, like a crop top. I am 5'7" and it barely covered my belly button. It doesn't specifically mention it in the description and the photos make it look like it would fit like a hoodie. I am usually a size large in every Arcteryx shirt/jacket I own/have tried on, so I ordered a large. When I recieved it and tried it on, it looked like I was wearing a kids jacket. The sleeves were also very short. The front pocket is open (no zipper or buttons). The fabric was nice and the weight was what I was looking for; however, I didn't test how it performed outside. Overall I think this jacket could be improved on. I would love an anorak style Atom jacket that wasn't cropped.
Must buy jacket
I had been considering buying this when I saw someone wearing it and I knew I had to buy it immediately. I am complimented on this jacket daily. The fit is perfect for me. I really appreciate that it’s boxy and slightly shorter in the body (not cropped). This is a much more contemporary style than the fitted, figure hugging outdoors ladies wear of old. Colour is as pictured, perfect. Warm and also perfect for layering under a light waterproof.
Versatile every day pull over for cold fall/winter
Have worn every day since it arrived. Incredibly cozy and weather resistant quarter zip. Great adjustable fit. Love the double kangaroo pocket with cozy soft fleeced slide pocket for hands and the dump pocket overlay. Cuffs also have a soft wrist closure to keep heat in. Only change I would request is an SL version (or Norvan) with 1/3 to 2/3 less insulation for warmer days and technical trails.
Love
I have the regular Elec jacket and love it so when I saw they came out with this I bought it instantly. This feels heavier (warmer) than the full zip version, I like the fabric on this more than the atom jacket and how you can wear it more as a “fashion” piece but it also performs well when hiking. I like the cropped fit and find it more flattering if you cinch the bottom.
Very cozy jacket
I am between sizes (small and medium). I chose to size up and I would recommend this if you want to put something underneath this jacket. It’s very warm - I wore it hiking recently in Yukon in November and was way too hot! Seems well made and I am happy with my purchase so far. I purchased the purple jacket and I get a lot of compliments when I wear it out!
Elec SV 1/2 Zip
I absolutely loved the style and purple color for this. However, it was more cropped than I anticipated. For reference, I am 5'8" and it was near my belly button. Sadly had to return. If they offered this in a longer length I would purchase in a heartbeat!
Love this jacket for a mid layer
I’m 5’4” with a shorter torso and this is the perfect jacket. I ordered a size small. It’s a loose fit yet still keeps me nice and warm.
Cloud-like and Warm
I've had the Atom Hoody in size XS for about six years, and I've put it through many treks, camping, and travel days. While it has lost its insulation and water resistance qualities, it's held up really well, and is still great as a layering piece. However, I was eyeing either the long Atom hoody or this item. Because I'm shorter (5'4", 115lbs, long torso, small chested), I gravitate towards cropped tops/jackets. Based on how the small sizing looked on the 5'6" model in the photos, I went with my usual XS size. I haven't tested this out in the elements, but out of the bag, I liked the cloud-like feel/warmth of the insulation. The length hit my hips as I hoped, and it has a boxy cut with sufficient room for layering. I considered perhaps sizing down to achieve a slimmer look without having to cinch the ripstop nylon, but as I removed the jacket over my head, I realized sizing down further may make the undressing part more cumbersome. I also read in the questions section about the collar--yes, it stays down flat when folded over. Lastly, the black color is not a true black; when worn over black pants, the jacket is slightly grayer, but I don't mind the contrast.
