Not good for long hair

This item is well made, good stitching, and has the expected qualities of Smartwool. I bought a medium and it fits appropriately snug but not too tight. I would say this is slightly above a lightweight base layer. The black is dark and I do wish I had chosen one of the brighter colors on offer. My one complaint is the cut of the hood. The hood is quite form-fitting and fits snuggly around your scalp. This is fine, except for people with longer hair. When trekking I usually wear my hair in two braids. Because the chin part of the hood fits close to my face, my hair can't hang down out the front of the hood; I have to tuck my hair in the back. Since the hood fits so closely to my scalp, my hair is pressed rather tightly against the back of my neck and things get uncomfortable pretty quickly. There is no way I could do a bun on top of my head as the top of the hood fits snuggly against my scalp. It's uncomfortable to tuck my hair between my upper shoulders and the shirt and this gets in the way of my pack straps. I have other hooded active shirts, notably one from REI, that have a looser fitting hood around the neck and allow me to tuck my hair inside more comfortably. Perhaps Smartwool can design a better hood that takes into account different hair styles and needs.

The shirt is great. Very warm. Soft and comfortable. Only problem is it is made for a tall woman . I need the warmth, it ends at the top of my legs.
