Smartwool  Classic Thermal Merino Base Layer Quarter-Zip - Women's

Normally, Smartwool has great quality and products. It fits well and I like the style. This pullover does not hit that high mark of quality. I've owned it a few months. The material piles and there are small holes developing in areas that get more contact. It feels like it's falling apart. I've purchased some other merino wool items from other manufactures that have much higher quality for about the same price. I hope Smartwool improves their products.

I'm 5'5'', 140lbs and usually wear M or S in tops (depends on brand and fit). I ordered this in L for more relaxed fit. It was very tight. Felt like I was wearing an XS, like a sausage in casing. I understand that base layers are meant to be worn close to skin, but this was uncomfortably constraining. Even an XL would probably not be a better fit, based on how tight the L was - which is wild considering I am usually a M. For context, I bought a L Classic Thermal Merino Crew base layer that fit very nicely, a bit relaxed but not oversized. So I know for sure that the sizing in this style is definitely very tight compared to Smartwool's other tops and I have no idea why.

Note: This is my 3rd 1/4 zip sweater. Just brought it home without trying it in a M, Grey Foggy Pattern. I also brought one home in Purple which runs large. This sweater in this color is EXTREMELY small. Several inches shorter than either this years sweater in Purple, or last years in Black. Very tight across the chest (I am a 36D so that is an issue). Will need to exchange for either a size L or perhaps this was a mismanufactured item? The inside is clearly stamped 'M'.

The product is great but REi? I received the top with a store made tag and no Smartwool tag with care instructions and composition. Makes me think the top was worn.

I love that this top is 100% wool. I'm always looking for 100% natural fibers clothing and this fits the bill. I have some of these already and love them for travel and home. They have a wide temperature comfort. I used this top for a 50 day Camino trip (500 miles) and was great to wear in the cool mornings up to warmer mid day and cool evenings. I wear it close to skin top and as a light sweater with layers under. It doesn't take much space in the backpack or bike pack. Very good layering top. For Spring to Fall travel I use this top with Cashmere sweater (weight for warmth is great), a primaloft packable lightweight jacket (recycled polyester), and a rain shell and I can keep my travel back pack to 20 pounds.

I have had this same 'sweater' for over ten years ... two different colors, and now a replacement of one of them. It is warm, natural and very stylish also. It wears well and looks great - goes under clothing or is worn on its own. I am thankful they still make this sweater after all these years. At times I have thought I should buy five or six more IN CASE they ever stop making it so that I will always have one. That's how much I like it. Bottom line, I HIGHLY recommend this sweater.

Thicker wool. Not itchy. Nice zipper. Fit is similar to past ones with quarter zips that I own. Usually wear medium and that's what fits. 5'4", 135 pounds

I've worn this every day since I bought it, with a brief pause for washing. It's super thin and warm, fits nicely under my ski jacket, and is great for freezing weather. I went with the 2X size so it looks nice with t-shirts and jeans/leggings (rather than using it as a thermal). The aqua color is true to the pictures, and I've just ordered the black because I like my first one so much. I'm going to use this for outdoor activities, dog walking, pilates, and general life.

Mink Heather is not all the color of mink heather: zipper is orange I have several of these thermal merino 1/4 zip from Smartwool. I live in them and love them. I was so excited to see the rich dark brown so ordered quickly. I don't wear black; brown is my color. I am very disappointed that the beautiful brown has an orange zipper. Online there is a picture of a solid brown zipper zipped up. This is misleading and deceptive to the buyer. There is no other Smartwool 1/4 zip that has a contrasting zipper. They all match the color of the garment. My gray has gray zipper, blue has blue zipper. . . . please make this with a dark brown matching zipper.

Very soft, warm, and comfortable. Allows full freedom of movement in the shoulders. Narrows to give a flattering fit at the waist. A little long for me (I'm 5'2""), but the fitted shape made it acceptable, and turned up sleeves stay in place, off my hands, and out of the way of hand-washing and manual work. Zip-up to protect against biting wind or unzip to cool down during exercise. I'm wearing these all the time now. This 100% merino wool top doesn't get smelly like my synthetics, so laundry is simpler now. Make sure to measure yourself and use Smartwool's size chart when selecting your size. This gave a perfect result for me.
