Smartwool  Classic Thermal Merino Half-Zip Base Layer Hoodie - Women's

I love this layer. I now have 3! I am a ski patroller and this is my everyday base layer for work—breathable, quick drying, warm and cozy, and it doesn't smell! I can wear this layer for my entire work week and it won't get stinky (this is not true of any of my other layers) which is amazing. I rotate them out tho because they're all so cute :) the hood is great and I love the 2/3s zip because on warm days you can really let out a lot of heat with that without having to take it all the way off! I also use this in the summer and as a cute non work warm layer in the winter. And I'm sensitive to wool but this one doesn't itch! Just all around perfect!

My usual size is XS but in order to layer for a hoodie I sized up - this fits perfectly over my long-sleeve baselayers, and I hope it will be my go-to hoodie to bring along whenever I'm out for an evening walk, or drinks at a bar (soon lol), or just something to shrug on around the house. The color blocks and patterns are pretty ugly though - I would have preferred something more classic that doesn't scream ""ATHLEISURE SKIWEAR"". The arms are a little scratchy on bare skin, but that might smooth out through different washes. I hope because this is a heavier wool that it won't develop holes like all my other Smartwool baselayers.

I haven't bought a base layer top in 12 years from Smartwool as my other two are still going strong (got one on now!). However, when I saw this color and the hoodies option, I had to get it to go with my next pair of base layer bottoms. . . I am loving this shirt. It's cozy and the hoodie makes it more likely I will wear it casually around this winter, not just out in the snow. If there is one design improvement I'd recommend, it'd be for the thumb-loop so I can keep it over my wrist and out of my jacket. But that's just a preference. (The sleeves are long enough to pull through and beyond the coat sleeve. )

I love this hoodie!!! You can wear it in the backcountry, going to town or even on a casual evening. It's a versatile hoodie with functionality and style. This hoodie is warm on the coldest of days, the hood fits me nicely and it's comfortable. I was wearing this on a walk on a cold storm day and was so warm that I needed to remove my jacket. I have the Honey Gold Heather and I love the color combo. The fabric is soft with the perfect amount of thickness. I have laundered it several times and have had no issues with pilling or shrinking. Smartwool has quality products. I definitely have some #smartwoollove

I have a few of the Thermal Merino tops and was curious about the hoodie. It did not disappoint. It was light weight and warm which made it great for layering. The true test was when I wore it with only a light weight jacket on in 30 degree weather and I wasn't cold. I know the top kept me nice and warm since I have been cold in the jacket before. I was worried wearing the top under stuff would be uncomfortable since the zipper is so long and wasn't sure if it would bunch. after wearing it a few times I realized that it was comfortable no matter what I wore it under. #Smartwoollove

I love the hoodie and give it five stars - comfortable, soft, warm. . . all the things I love about Smartwool products. The missing star is because the item came clearly tried on and stuffed back into a bag to be returned. It had some (not a lot, but still too much) dog hair and long dark hair on it that was obviously not mine. Perhaps this was because I had a discount code and didn't pay full price? I'm not opposed to consignment finds, etc. , but I prefer to know ahead of time that an item has been lightly used. Smartwool, please be more attentive to what you send next time!

I bought this top to wear downhill skiing and fat biking because I thought the hood would fit under my helmets. I also thought the hood would be nice for backcountry and cross country skiing to take the chill off. The problem is the hood is not form fitting and wouldn't fit under a helmet or keep my head warm, also the neck is way too loose, so it wouldn't work to keep the wind and cold out. I think the top is really nice fabric and looks cute as long as your not planning on using the hood. I usually love everything Smartwool makes, but I had to return this item.

I'm 5'5"" - 145 lbs. This shirt is perfect! Good length in hem, long enough to keep my back from showing and coming untucked or riding up while out. Sleeves are a great length, though I would really like thumb holes. 1/2 zip is a winner!!! Yes and thank you! I love having the 1/2 zip for plenty of ventilation options. Make more 1/2 zips for women ?? Even though this is a warmer, thicker base layer than my usual all-season base, it doesn't have the bulky feel of most thicker wool garments. I use this top as a base layer for the chilly days on the mountains in Montana, generally parked with a 600fill down midlayer and a gore-Tex shell. It is the perfect combo of warm and breathable for those biting windchills. The top of the zipper isn't the most comfortable in the world, but I just leave it unzipped to just under my chin and let a Buff and a balaclava do their work keeping my neck warm. Smartwool made a tunic length hoodie similar to this last year, and I prefer that neckline, but that's pretty much my only gripe.
