If you're looking for the highest quality, lightest merino gear out there, Ortovox is it! These leggings are 70% merino and weigh roughly 2.7oz for the medium ( I'm 6'1 , 168lbs) not only are they light, but very comfortable and very durable. I used them on the PCT and they are still going strong. If you want check out their whole 120 comp light merino gear lineup.. they have everything from t shirts, boxer briefs, neck gaiters etc. Yes, they are on the expensive side but if you wait, you can catch good sales. Definitely worth the price. I haven't found anything lighter with this high merino blend. Highly recommend, especially for long distance hikes¡
I took these base layer pants on the PCT for my sleep clothes with temps down to about 28, inside a 20F sleeping quilt. Super soft, light, and thin. They are so thin they approach pantyhose territory in some places, and yet they have not developed any snags or runs yet. I also haven't had any trouble with pilling during laundering. I wash them with my other clothes on a normal dryer setting. The waistband is also high enough to be very secure without being too tight. I'm really impressed with how well these pack down. I can't think of any criticisms of this product. They may not be warm enough for all stated purposes. I mostly use them to boost the warmth of my quilt.
I got these for use under armored motorcycle pants in hot weather (probably not the usual for REI gear). They're great! I found them cool and comfortable and they keep my knees and butt from sticking to the trousers.
