The first time I saw a Selk’ bag was through the front window of my local REI mixed in with sleeping bags and hammocks. “What in the world is that?!” I thought. The beautiful dark tropical pattern was what initially caught my eye. I used to joke that my long puffy REI coat was like wearing a sleeping bag-but this was the real deal-a sleeping bag jumper for adults! I tried it on and knew that somehow, someday I would get one. Often feeling cold and being a homebody, I could see myself just living in the Selk’ like a Hobbit in the Shire. My lucky day came when one was returned for a small seam tear and ended up in the REI garage sale aisle. At home, after 10 minutes of hand stitching,I was happily cocooned in the Selk’. Other reviews mentioned wearing their Selk to dog walk or camp. I plan to wear mine at home where I can open it up when hot flashes roll in and pull on the hood/zip on footies/flip the mittens when I feel cold. The outside fabric feels “tender” so I’m not inclined to wear this outside or by a fire. Maybe on my back deck in the starlight. At 5’6” and 155 lbs my Selk’ is a roomy Large size. I also tried on the Medium and found that if I shrugged my shoulders up that the Selk’ got tight on my shoulders since there is no stretch and I had the booties zipped on -which probably kept me from getting a wedgie. A jumpsuit always takes a little dance to wiggle into it-so that wasn’t a surprise with this too. If you struggle with feeling cold-then you’ll love having a Selk’ to snuggle in. Enjoy!!
My cycling team mate who is a tall skinny lady had one of these and I thought it looked cool so I also bought one, however I am probably the same weight as she is (125lbs) but about 4 inches shorter (5’4) with a booty. This fit awkwardly-I bought a medium per the size guide but even with the booties off the crotch was up in my business section and super tight around my thighs while the top was way too oversized. Had to return. Neat concept, poor execution for shorter ladies with some meat on them. For reference I normally wear an xs/s (4-6) and am a 26in waist, 28in inseam so I’m not that large of a person.
I love the weight of this and the pattern, BUT for women with any sort of curves (I'm a size 14)....huge fail. In order to get any sort of give in the hips/bust, you have to deal with quite a big of extra length. I busted out laughing when I tried it on. This is for the ladies with thinner/straighter body types. I'll be looking for a more traditional "wearable" sleeping bag instead.
I am Female, 5'7", 125 lbs. Planned to use without booties, so purchased a size small and medium for choice. Small was perfect roomy fit in body, but with booties off, only reached my upper calf. Medium was double the size in body, and sans booties, almost reached my upper ankle. The print is just lovely and the quality is impressive, Sad to return...So wish this fit! Hope this review helps...
I purchased the Selk'bag for my wife's birthday because she always seems to be cold. She wears it in front of the fire at night, to sleep in, lounging at the sofa, walking the dog to the park….. she uses more than her regular clothes! She loves it and we’re definitely getting more for our kids for our next camping trip!
Ordered in both a size Large and XL and neither fit right. The large was too short and uncomfortable/restricting in certain areas, but the XL was giant, like for a 6'3" person. Cool idea but it didn't work for me. The design of the fabric was adorable. Also, just to note, I was hoping to wear this outside in Alaska as a snowsuit, but it wouldn't have been warm enough, more just for summer camping and lounging around looking like a weirdo.
I love this cozy beastie. Warm and soft, with a delightful forest creatures pattern. If you are taller than 5 feet, the size small will likely not work for you unless you remove the booties.
