Temperature ratings are intended as a guideline to help you compare products, rather than a guarantee of warmth, since many different factors contribute to your comfort while you sleep. Backpacking bags are typically rated for temperature according to an independent testing protocol—currently International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 23537, though some older items followed European Norm (EN) 13537. Testing is based on a person wearing one base layer and a pair of socks, sleeping on an insulated surface with a minimum R-value of 5.38.

Each bag then gets 2 ratings: the Comfort rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "cold sleeper" comfortable, and the Lower Limit rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "warm sleeper" comfortable. Some brands determine their own temperature rating by aligning to the Comfort rating for women’s bags, to the Lower Limit rating for men’s bags, or somewhere in the middle for nongendered bags.

Decent but bulky

I expected this synthetic bag to be lighter and able to pack up smaller in its supplied compression sack. Good thing is it does come with a compression sack. It's pretty comfy and I like the stretchy baffles. I got it on sale too for about $75 so reasonably priced. But I can't see using this for backpacking. Just car camping. I have a few pieces of gear from Klymit and they're all both a HIT and a MISS.

Not great for finicky sleepers or sweaters!

This bag kept me plenty warm, but the zipper and velcro around the hood were annoying to sleep on. I move around a lot in my sleep, so the annoying material around my head and shoulders, plus the fact that I was sliding around a lot due to the slippery material made it hard to get and stay comfortable. Also, the inner material was not comfortable on my skin at all. I had one warmer night and that I had to strip down to just underwear and I was sticking to the inside of the bag. I know this bag was probably too warm for the conditions I was in, but even when I unzipped it and used it like a quilt I was sweating and sticking to the bag. It also does not compress well. It's always a struggle to get back into the sack.

Fun and affordable, but beware of drafts!

I bought this when I was first starting out with backpacking and thought it was amazing, until one night in high winds. Those unique stretchy baffles are all fun and games until a chilly breeze rolls through your tent, and you feel each and every stitching hole that was made to create them! Ended up having to sleep in my rain gear to block the breeze. Excellent value for beginners and fair weather campers, though!

Poor Quality

This product I bought as my first piece of camping gear. I used it two trips and the synthetic material would move leaving multiple spots with no material and basically freezing me out. This product would be better used in the summer months. If it cannot keep someone warm in 30 degree weather, it’s not going to keep someone warm in 20 degree weather. Additionally, this product is bulky and difficult to stuff back into the sack. I sold it to a friend and they loved it but said the same thing about the material.

So far, so good.

I haven’t used this bag in colder temps, but it’s been great so far. I typically run hot and so most nights I haven’t even zipped it up all the way. Compared to a friend using a different 20 degree bag, this bag is much heavier, but I’m sleeping much warmer than he is. All in all, great bag for the money. I wish the Recon color was still available.

Was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the products. I purchased the 20 degree bag, a liner and a pillow. All of the items work great for what I need them for. I typically camp monthly with the Scouts with an occasional multiple day hiking trip thrown in every other year. Feel like I would not be comfortable in the bag in the lower temps but I've never really liked the cold anyway so I probably am not a good barometer for the effectiveness of the temperature control. Would definitely recommend.

Cold Toes and insulation gaps

I've had better sleeping bags, and I mean much better. Firstly, the foot box had hardly any insulation in the first place. Second I found that in many places, the insulation was incredibly thin and didnt do much to keep warm. Would only reccomend for warm car camping or insulated tent camping. Or not even camping. Bring it to a sleepover maybe, because it's almost childish how little it does compared to other brands, even when completely packed down, this bag still takes up half my backpack.
