Great entry-level SPD/two-bolt shoe

Typically wear size US 10.5 sneakers. Bought a pair of these in EU 45 after trying on a few pairs in store, which on Bontrager's size chart is somehow meant to be US 12. While a little heavy, these Evoke shoes have been comfortable for 100+ mile rides on my road and gravel bikes. They've also held up to mud, dirt, scuffs and life on/off road nicely after 1.5 years of weekly use. I also own a pair of Shimano RX8 shoes and their size EU 45 (US 10.5 on their chart) fits me nicely, too, so pay attention to sizing on these if you're buying online. For the price, they've been fantastic, although for longer rides the softer soles (6/14 on Bontrager's chart) can lead to some hot spots. Would recommend for anyone just getting into clipless shoes, or anyone looking for a basic but durable two-bolt clipless shoe.

Bontrager Evoke (velcro): regret this purchase
Edward

Bought a pair of these Bontrager Evoke shoes (velcro strap version) in Jan 2020. This was a mistake. Velcro is not suitable as the "lacing" mechanism for biking shoes. Velcro attachments degrade with use over time. The velcro on these shoes is only as wide as the strap velcro, consequently, you don't get a firm attachment unless the strap velcro is perfectly aligned with the shoe velcro. I will consider a Bontrager shoe with the BOA "lacing" option, but never velcro again.

Good shoes

I have wide feet, and Pearl Izumi's don't fit. Bontrager shoes fit nicely, though there is not much cushioning in the sole -- which can be a plus for people wanting to devote all of their energy to the pedals. For walking around I found the recess for the cleat to be a little shy, so the cleat was definitely hitting the ground/concrete/flooring. Fore and aft adjustability of the cleat was first rate. The velcro straps worked well to adjustably secure the shoe to my foot, though the topmost one is a but stiff. Unfortunately, however, for some reason the right shoe apparently aggravates the underside of my foot in a manner that isn't apparent until after spending several hours on the bike and subsequently walking in the shoes into the house. No problems with my left foot!

Does well enough, but a bit warm

The shoe replaced several other worn out MTB shoes that were about $200. Given the Covid, these were the only shoes available. They go on and off easily, are tough, walk easily. There are two caveats. The shoe is lined inside, which makes them warm in the Texas heat. When I added the orginal style SPD cleats, the cleats kept popping off the pedals. Finally, I had to cut away a small bit of the rubber between the SPD cleat and the show. The fit was so tight the cleat was unable to seat fully on the pedal. This was not difficult, using a box cutter.. Since summer is about over, I expect them to be fine as the cooler weather happens. Oh, I wear a size 11. These were size 12 and fit fine.

Comfy, affordable, and stylish!

After my last pair of Bontrager MTB shoes fell apart after 10 years of heavy, loving use, I found this pair and was super pleased with the fit. My Crankbrothers cleats were a snap to install and don't clank on the pavement when walking. They look great, fit really well, and the price was right. I've no reason to doubt that these will last as long as my previous paid.

Solid, comfortable and reliable

Solid, comfortable and great performance. The Velcro strips are key. They’re quick to strap on and remain snug during the ride. The sole is strong rubber that provides support and protection but also some traction when needed on the rocks. Sometimes the foot needs to quickly leave the peddle and hit the ground. A rubber sole is important when riding in the woods on diverse terrain.

Tongues slip & shift

I really liked the fit & stiffness of these shoes. But returning because the tongues on both shoes migrate downward, making it very uncomfortable after even short rides! Disappointed that no matter how I strapped it down the tongues would move.

Sturdy shoe, a little warm.

These shoes are easier to walk on when you stop biking. The cleat is deep in the tread. They are comfortable, but heavy. They may be more comfortable in winter, but I have found them rather warm on my first few rides at the end of summer.

Great comfortable shoe

I needed new shoes to replace my old ones. I ordered a size or two larger to allow room for two pairs of thick winter socks. These shoes are comfortable, and kept my feet warm.
