A great pair of trail running shoes. Used these shoes on over twenty miles of trail running around Alabama. The shoes felt true to size, while being snug in the heel and mid-foot, yet, roomy in the toe box. I used these shoes straight out of the box with no aftermarket insoles, surprisingly, I experienced no hot spots or foot pain during or after use. The liner of the shoe is very comfortable with lightweight running socks on. While running the shoes provided adequate protection from rocks and trail debris. This is my first pair of Salomon running shoes, and I wold definitely reccomend them to someone looking for a lightweight pair of trail running shoes. On a side note, like many other hikers, I have transitioned to lighter weight equipment, and wearing trail runners instead of boots. I took these shoes out for a ten mile day hike and was even more surprised at how well the did. They are light, flexible, comfortable, supportive, and grippy enough to deal with a 25 lb. pack weight. I look forward to using them on my next section/through hike.
Salomon outdid themselves with this one. It's a lightweight, well-cushioned, responsive, durable, grippy, and comfortable shoe! Right out of the box, I took these on a technical 23 mile run in the Alaska wilderness and felt like a hundred bucks at the end. There were no blisters, hot spots, or even rashes even after going a waist-deep river crossing. Some may question the traction, but I assure you that despite the appearance of the outsole these shoes grip phenomenally. The new premium wet traction contagrip works wonders; the only time you might slip a bit is in really muddy conditions. Great shoe! Definite buy!
So comfortable, and with the spring and bounce of a road shoe. So it surprised me to be able to start on the pavements without jarring my knees, but for it to work as a proper trail shoe on light trails, mud and grit. I'd stick to my Speedcross 4s for proper rocky hills and fells, but this Sense Ride is much better for me for runs right from my front door. Grip-wise I felt secure and stable, and it feels really light for an effortless and efficient toe-off springyness! I've got wide flat penguin feet, so I don't always get on with Salomon's narrow and tight, light fit, but these had a nice roomy toebox.
I have really enjoyed all the miles (60 & counting) I have gotten to run in the Sense Ride. From Volcanic ash and river crossings to plush soft wooded trails this shoe handles it all with comfort and style.
I had to take back the shoes after 5 months because of tears or fraying.
Hello, Thank you for taking the time out to give us your feedback and experience with our trail runners. we are sorry they did not work out for you, all Salomon footwear is covered under a 2 year warranty for any manufacturing defects such as this, however we are happy this has been resolved with the retailer. I looked at the shoe and thought this was going to be a regular, no big deal, running shoe. Was wrong. I loved the feel of this shoe. I wanted to just see how it felt walking around on various surfaces and to be honest, the shoe was great. The size was honest and I felt the toe box was excellent, not to tight, not too loose. The shoe track felt much like a stability shoe without the huge rear sole. The gate of the shoe was pleasant, lending itself toward a neutral gate or almost a barefoot angled shoe, with cushion. It was stable without feeling ultra heavy and even after walking several miles, didn't tire my foot. I loved this shoe and beyond is rather plain styling, thought the shoe was awesome to run and walk in.
Great shoe overall but pretty disappointed on the durability. The side blew after not even 250km (on the big toe side) Mesh is too fragile. The North Shore trails could be pretty hard on shoes (sharp rocks) but I usually get more around 400km with the same pair. In other words; Sense Ride is not meant for gnarly terrain. Otherwise, they are a good option if you are looking for a versatile shoe to run on mixed terrain. I personally feel like they fit a little bit wider and roomier than other Salomon trail runners.(compare to Sense 6 SG or even S-Lab Amph) Not as performance oriented. Fair option for "training" shoes.

I've used Salomons in the past. Some work for me and some do not. This shoe does not work for me. The upper/tongue opening is much too wide for my foot so that the laces place too much pressure in areas on top of my foot. The shoe also seems to run very narrow so I need to size up a half size. This solved my width issue but added too much length. The result was my toes would slide creating hot spots on my toes, especially on climbs. I had no problems on the flats. I like the concept of the lacing mechanism, and it worked well. I feel the shoe is quite light with adequate traction. The blue/orange color is not to my liking. I believe this a good shoe for the correct foot. However, it didn't work for me.
I purchased these to begin training for my first 50k. So far, about 100 miles of running into it, and WOW!! My confidence while running in these shoes has increased dramatically, as compared to other brands, these offer tremendous traction on the rocks and don't slip! One the downside, I have developed calluses on the medial aspect of each of my great toes, which I found surprising, as I have over 15 marathons under my belt and never had this occur before. My size 11.5, so I'm wondering if in this brand it may be too small, would you recommend go up a full size or half size, to possibly deter this from happening?
Thanks for the feedback and I’m sorry to hear about the issue that you've experienced with sizing. We’d like to take a further look at your case in the interest of making it right. Years ago I bought the Solomon Synapse trail running shoes, ever since then I have measured how much I like a shoe by how close it comes to matching the Solomon Synapse. These shoes are the closest so far. Solomon has come up with a great design, lightweight but solid support around the foot, the traction is great and the quick cinching laces are great. It took all of about 15 minutes to break these shoes in and they felt comfortable. The only issue I had is that the heel is a little bit taller than I like, but other than that these are a fantastic shoe.
