I have these for almost a year now. Good fit and they may last well (time will tell). Nice big toe box. Love the lacing system. I tend to adjust my laces when heading downhill and these are super easy to do. I do see a few minor wear signs around the top where lace ends. They have become my favorite shoes for hiking as they are considerably lighter than all other shoes/boots I own. I like the agility and the grip. I am mostly hiking in Socal mountains. They breath well on hot days. I think they would do good on granite, but haven't had an opportunity to try any long hikes in Sierras. With heavy rains this year, lot of loose rocks are on the trail. No slipping or feeling of pointy rocks come through. As far as running, I am still looking for a better alternative and in the meantime I have return to using defyance 8 (these are light but on trails I feel like I am running barefoot). Pro 3D are heavier than regular runners, which is expected in a shoe that is going to have a base plate for trails. What I find annoying is that hard "thunk" I feel when going downhill. I think the rubber may be too hard to absorb any shocks, which may be why there is almost no wear so far. It may have a give for heavier runners (I'am 180+). I think the top will go out before the soles wear out.

Lining on the heel tab wore through after a month

I've liked Salomon shoes in the past an bought a new pair this at the end of September. I took a week long hiking trip and noticed, by the time I was done, that my socks were wearing out on the back of my ankle right around the top of the shoe. I went on a short hike today and noticed irritation. When I checked the shoe I noticed that the liner was worn through where my socks were wearing through. I've never experienced an issue like this on new shoes. Attached photos of both shoes.

Achilles HEAL

I bought these and was holding on to them to wear a lot this summer while I wore out the old pair. I only wore them a few places until recently, but now the Plastic has come through the heel area, again. This is the second pair! I bought the current pair while still wearing out the old pair. The plastic on the old pair dug into my heal and I had worn them quite a bit and hoped these would be different. The padding needs to be better or plastic must go.

Great hiking shoe

This shoe is great, but the places it allowed me to get to was even more amazing. Conquering steep inclines, sheer cliffs, wet and uneven surfaces, and snow. The Solomon Men’s XA’s Pro Trail-Running shoes out performed my expectation of a trail running shoe based on its price. This shoe is mostly waterproof and offered good ventilation on a long hike. When it did get wet it dried out in 15-20mins. The shoes are pretty comfortable, and I only experienced discomfort and fatigue after 5hr of hiking straight. I wish the XA pros were a little wider for my foot, but I’m sure it’s more about the build of my foot than the shoes design. The XA pros were very durable and there utility are as advertised. Not once did feel that a rough surface would hurt the XAs. Also, its ability to give me stability and maintain grip on wet and uneven surfaces gave me lots of coincidence to tackle tougher trails. In conclusion the XA pros were awesome for me and for there price they are hard to pass up.

Excellent hiking and backpacking shoe!!!

I'm 5'10 165lbs and wear a wide size 10. Hard to find wide sizes. Put about 1200-1400 miles on a pair of now 5 year old TNF Hedgehogs and needed a new pair that would handle the varied terrain SoCal has to offer. Really wanted Altra 4.0's but the durability was the main issue. I've put about 40 miles with a 25lb pack this year in these Salomon's and LOVE them!!! I'm slowly getting into trail running too and hope Salomon will make more wide sizes besides these.

Excellent Multi-Use Shoe

Recently purchased. I own a pair of Salomon X-Ultra 2 GTX shoes, and Comet boots. The XA Pro 3D is quite possibly my favorite so far. It is a great multi-uselection shoe. Great build quality, the lack get system is a tad better even than the X-Ultra 2, being non-waterproof only enhances the breathability and makes for some very happy feet while hiking. These shoes are relatively light weight yet offer great stability and ample support for carrying a respectable package load. Traction is fantastic overall and thereally is a nice heel break for descents. These are a great choice for hiking, and backpacking which is my intended purpose.

VERY pleased

I bought this shoe on account of hearing nothing but positive reviews regarding Salomons in general. Within days of my purchase, I did a 10-mile hike over several types of surfaces. I also ran a bit in them. When I returned to camp I changed socks and put the shoes back on and was completely comfortable. The shoes that I wore previously caused a LOT of discomfort. I would not have been able to complete the same hike without lots of discomfort (aches/pains). Again, VERY PLEASED!!

Solid all-around comfort and performance

I am 6' 3" 210 lbs. I wear a size 12 and need a wide toe box. I returned to trail running about 3 months ago after an absence of several years, during which I only hiked. I run in a forest environment with numerous elevation gains and drops, rocks, roots, and leaf litter concealing unseen hazards. I had read reviews on web sites that praised the shoe for comfort and protection but criticized it for weight. I think that assessment is fair but don't think this is a "heavy" shoe. I do run without problem in this shoe and although my times might be faster in a lighter shoe the XA Pro 3D's comfort and protection are so confidence inspiring that a little slower time is more than acceptable.

Very rugged shoes!

I just got back from a hiking/backpacking trip to Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Grand Canyon National Parks and these shoes worked great! The real test for them (and me) was the top-down overnight hike of the Narrows in Zion with a heavy pack on my back. We spent about 15 hours in cold water, deep mud, deep sand, and navigating slippery rocks. Out of countless river crossings, I think I felt the shoes slip on an underwater rock maybe twice? Afterwards, the shoes just needed a couple days to dry out and they were ready for more hiking with just some toothbrush cleaning of the mud and sand.

Poor quality

Third pair that fails badly. sole-shoe connection comes off. I have other hiking shoes that are older and this is not the same. This salomon soles are not glued enough, water and wear seems to cause the sole to become loose unglued. for a plus $100 price tag, I expect a long lasting bonding quality to say the least.
