Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

These are the best shoes ever. I walked the Camino de Santiago wearing these. I never got blisters and my feet had zero pain. They would get soaked and they would dry out very quickly. My heal wore out the backs but there was no pain in the process. This was after a lot of miles. I slapped some duct tape on and no issues. Wonderful walking shoe! Was great on areas of heavy sidewalks and hard road. I just bought another pair. Be sure to get the right size. It matters with altra.
I understand that everyone has different foot types, but this sort of shoe is NOT for my foot type. I know that the extra padding is beneficial in some ways, but to me it felt like trying to run on wobbly stilts. While being "comfortable" because of the wide toe box (I was optimistic about this) I made it only 1.5 miles in these before they were so painful I had to turn around. I read a little more about them and found that if you have very strong disposition to walking on the inside or the outside of your foot, these aren't for you. I walk pretty heavily on the outsides of my feet and these try to over-correct, making them very painful. I ended up returning them and getting a pair of moderately padded shoes (La Sportivas) that are MUCH better for me.
These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever, ever worn. I bought them to try, then injured my foot and these were the only shoes that would fit, and then kept wearing them because they were so comfortable. I now have 4 pairs. I can easily wear them for 12 hour shifts and my feet stay happy because they're nice and wide with a ton of cushioning. They look heavy, but they are actually quite light. They take some getting used to, but are 100% worth the price (and look).
I love my moderate cushion Altra Lone Peak shoes, so I assumed that the high cushion Olympus would be even better. Size 8.5 in the Lone Peak was perfect, but in the Olympus it was too short. Many other reviews that I read complained about the same thing. I would order a larger size but I am concerned that they would be too wide. Maybe they will fix next years model since there were so many complaints.
These shoes sort of look like clown shoes because of the rounded foot shaped toe box, and if you're prone to being "pigeon toed", be careful you don't trip yourself. Once I hiked with them a few times, and made sure I didn't walk with my feet close together, I quickly got over the look and initial tendency to trip myself! I love the comfort and cushioning! I love the space my toes get! The Vibram soles are a major plus, letting me go up and down trails with loose rocks and some scree with no problems! After I went for a 10 mile hike that most people would reserve for boots, I am writing this! I have a pair of Salomon's and a pair of Hoka's, but these Altras have become my favorite! If you want to wear thicker socks, I recommend ordering up an entire size. I ordered up a half size, and am happy, but I need to wear a thinner sock. I also recommend breaking these in with a first run or hike in them no longer than 4.5 miles.
These shoes run narrower than other Altras. I usually wear women's 7,5- in these even 8,5 were too small. I did like the vibrate sole.
These are great shoes. I love, love, love the large toe box. They have excellent support and great cushioning. Truly an outstanding shoe. Though they are intended for trail running, I'm much more of a walker. These shoes fit the bill perfectly.
LOVE the fit, comfort, and wear of these shoes! They have hiked the fjords of Norway only to come home and pound the hard floors during long work days in surgery. I no longer purchase Hoka shoes as the sole wouldn't hold up more than a few months.
Bought 3 weeks ago. It offers great support, wide toe box and comfort!
Gradually fell apart over a few months. Having the words foot shape on the toe makes them seem like the shoes were meant for a preschooler.
