Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Fabulous shoes that were responsive on the TMB! 103 miles and lots of elevation gain and loss.
I wore these on the Walker Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt, and have fallen in love with these. I am also trail running the Colorado Rockies in these. Their responsiveness is incredible, the sole thickness is wonderful for the trail and with a light pack, they dry quickly and they're great for feet that need the toes to spread out. The bottom of the shoe is stable on uneven terrain and the rubber is grippy. I have the gaitors that attach to the back of the shoe and the front, they work! The only way I could be happier is if they cost less. P.S. The white is not a good idea for a trail shoe. After week 1 my shoes were neon pink and beige. The black is sick, but doesn't have the carbon plate.
Best show I have worn in years! I have used them for hiking multiple days in the Alps, rucking and walking. Love them
I wore these shoes for an ultramarathon. They are light, comfortable, easy-wearing shoes. I recommend wearing toe socks or toe protectors in these shoes, because the sides and front of the toe box are rigid, which protects you from stubbing your toes on the trail but also might cause some friction at the tips of your toes. The soles are super grippy, which was good for both climbing & descending on rough terrain. Just make sure that you're clearing obstacles with your stride when you get tired to avoid tripping! I've never worn a shoe with a carbon plate and I felt like I sensed a difference. I mostly noticed it when I was climbing steep hills because it gave me a bit of lift against my heel. As far as fit: I am usually a 10 to 10.5, and in these shoes, I wore a size 10. I had a tight fit around my heel/midfoot & plenty of room for my bunions and toes, which is what I wanted. TLDR in these shoes + toe socks, I completed an ultramarathon with zero hot spots and no blisters - great shoes.
I'm on the fence on these shoes. There is a bit too much floresant orange in the pigment and they look rather neon pink (80's kid so not a big deal). These are not the same foot shaped fit that the original Mont Blanc's had. They feel snug across the mid-foot and made my feet cramp really bad on the first few runs. I've relaced to skip the first hole by the toes and that sort of helps, but bottom line there isn't as much room in the toe box nor the mid foot. They fit more like a Saucony than an Altra which is disapponting. They are increadibly stiff which also probably contributed to the foot cramping, but at the same time I also feel a spring in my step and running felt effortless. I do like the improved heel fit as on the previous model I would get horrible blisters on my heels and had to modify them a bit to fix that issue. These so far have not given me any blisters. I also like that they are just as grippy as the previous model. I've tried these in mud, snow, and a freezing river crossing (thanks March Colorado weather for turning my street into a shin deep slushy water crossing) and have had no traction issues. They drain really well as well.
