Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I have been running in Timps for years now and love them. Have had probably 12 pairs. I was excited when they came out with the BOA version because for some reason I have had some ‘challenges’ with the laces on the 5s and was hoping the tightening gear and different lace system would alleviate those issues and/or make adjustments during a run quicker and easier. From day one these BOAs gave me the comfort and space I expect from the Timps. No breaking in period in the ‘main’ portion of the shoe. The padding under the gear on my left foot just hit differently for some reason and caused some tenderness under my ankle bone for the first 75 miles or so. Ever since, they have been a dream and I love the BOA lace system on them!! I didn’t love the sort of ‘shiny’ black they looked when I first got them but I changed that quickly with some running and dirt/mud. I’ve had them for about 300 miles so far and they are holding up well. As expected, the Vibram soles still look almost brand new and perform great in rain, snow, dry, craggly terrains. Overall, I truly love the Timp 5 BOAs and am about to get my second pair as the last 100-150 miles I have left on them will go by fast… ;) Highly recommend! Oh and for all Timp 5, including these BOAs, I have sized up a 1/2 size and they fit great. I was a 7 in the 4s but absolutely a 7.5 in the 5s…

I don’t know what it’s called, but the “sock” that is built into this shoe in place of a traditional tongue was WAY too tight around my ankle, to the point it was rolled up. I wanted to like this shoe so much, but that was a huge dealbreaker. This may not be an issue for you at all, but sadly it was for me.

Great ride, cool shoe

Bought today at REI in south Denver and loved them after first 5 mile run. The BOA system on this great shoe added better heal hold, less pressure on top of my foot, and made my toes feel free… while being locked … and they are kind of cool looking .
