Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Love this shoe for the AT

I've hiked 100 miles on the AT in these shoes and I love them. My feet stayed warm even when hiking in cold rain while also wearing merino wool socks. The shoes dried out fast inside my sleeping bag. I never got blisters either and the shoes handled all types of terrain. The shoe strings are made of a non-slip material and I never had to retie my shoes once they were on.

Comfortable, but not durable

I heard that Altra is hoping that the Lone Peaks can overtake the Brooks Cascadias as the #1 shoe on the PCT, and I figured I'd give 'em a shot. The Lone Peaks are definitely lightweight and comfortable, with a nice roomy toe box, and supportive cushioning. Unfortunately, the same soft foam that makes these so comfortable is also their weak point. After about 3 months of use and 200 trail miles, I noticed that the edges of the soles were looking pretty beat up. I'm not concerned with looking fashionable out on the trail, so it wasn't an issue, until the rubber outsole detached from the foam padding on the right shoe. I was able to use shoe goo to glue the sole back together, but it's clear that the other shoe is about to suffer the same fate. I really wanted these to work, but thru-hikers are hard on shoes, and I can't imagine these holding up to the hot, dusty miles of a long-distance trail.

Great trail shoe

Iv been trail running for less than a year and after blowing out a pair of "top o the line" trail shoes from a different company, I tried the Lone Peak 2.5 on in a shop. Amazing feel and finish on the shoe. I'm at around 50+ miles on them and could not be happier. The fit and room in the toe box is a superb fit for my wide foot. The shoe has just enough cushion without feeling bulky . The trails in my neck of the woods tend to be hard pack and rocky but the shoe protects my feet and iv had no issues with sore feet or stubbed toes. The zero drop took a few runs to adjust to but I followed the included transition instructions and now I can't imagin ever not running in Altra shoes. No negatives yet. Great shoe!

Outdated Construction

I bought and returned these after a few runs. They feel nice while walking, but the outdated construction and materials lead to a poor fit. The materials are very hot, don't breathe, and led me to a blister. The upper feels like a shoe from the 90's, in that it's simply some thick fabric held together with some stitching. Even the laces feel cheap. You also have difficulty feeling your foot is held in place and you have to really tighten the laces to feel stable. I would only consider these if you have giant toes. The really big toe box isn't a selling feature if you have normal feet.

Super comfortable hiking shoes.

I've tried numerous trail runners for hiking, and these are by far the most comfortable. No blisters and the wide toe-box is amazing for my feet.

Comfy toes

Immediately liked the wide toe box in these. Super comfortable vs some others I've tried. Shoe weight feels good and they're not too stiff. I would prefer some better rock/root protection for mid foot strikes against the jagged stuff but that's what you give up for flexibility and comfort. Ultimately, I think I'll keep these over the Saucony Peregrine 6's I bought at the same time to compare. Those for sure felt more protected against the rocks and roots but were stiffer, had 4mm drop and were not nearly as comfortable as these.

Altra Lone Peak 2.5 the perfect trail-running shoe

After some lengthly research I decided to buy these shoes (was deciding between these and the Brooks Cascadias) and was not disappointed. I have been using them for on roads, paths, and trails and am planning on doing 4000ft mountain runs with them this spring. PROS: First off the cushioning in these shoes is incredibly comfortable and, when paired with the stone guard, you can't feel any sharp or pointy rocks or roots under your feet. I especially like the wide toe box which helps with toe splay and also aids in making this shoe feel more broken-in and roomy right out of the box. The upper part of the shoe is lightweight and breathable and the bottoms are durable and have grippy lugs for great traction. CONS: I wish this version of the Lone Peak had the pull tabs in the back like the previous versions. Not a huge issue, but it helps get them off your feet easier. I think the uppers need more to them. They feel very fragile, but haven't had any issues with durability yet so we'll see. OTHER: The gator trap and the trail rudder aren't necessary for most people, however, they don't cause any issues and are easily forgotten. I am curious about how these shoes hold up over time. So far so good.

Great feel, traction, didn't hold up

First time with a hiking shoe. Felt great right out of the box. First 25 mile loop felt like I needed a little more cushion in the heel, but attributed that to a 48 pound pack. Added a heel insert and they were very comfortable. Did a 20 mile loop, felt great, great traction, great shoe....except the glue gave way on the sole where it comes up to the toe. Other then that, they are a 5 star shoe.

Great with very minor problems

This is a great shoe! I bought them for hiking and trail running which they do great! My only complaints are that my feet seem to slide sideways when I am on angled terrain hiking diagonal. Also, my heel seems to slide a little unless I tie my shoes really tight which can be annoying. Overall the shoe seems to be a little loose but that might just because I sized them a little big for me extra wide feet. None of these issues are a big deal at all and I would totally recommend them.

I started training for ultramarathons this year, so I’m new to trail runs. I highly recommend Altra Lone Peak 2.5. Training runs: double Dipsea (~14 mi) and Marin Headlands (25 mi) without any issues. Haven’t ran many miles on this pair, so I do not know the durability of the sole. The zero drop transition from Asics GT 2000 (~9mm) was not significant. The sole is soft and flexible. Great grip for the downhills. No issues with blisters or movement with the heels on the uphill or downhill sections. I have narrow heels, low arches, and wide ball of feet. The toe box provides a lot of space without rubbing on the little toe. Size up 1 ½. Best feature: soft, flexible, & breathable material on the top part of the shoe.
