Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Just got these about a week ago and only put 5.1 miles on them on a moderate desert trail Broadway Cave Jacob’s Crosscut. The upper is already separating on the toe of the left shoe. I’m really bummed because I paid a lot for these and I was hoping they would hold up a little better. They are really comfortable and light weight.
The under foot feel of this shoe is fantastic... Foam/Carbon plate are firm enough to be stable but bouncy enough to float you along smoothly. Vibram outsole is grippy and predictable. They really shine when you pick up the pace. Mid-foot fit is great and that Altra toe box is always a welcome living space for all of my toes. The color is less coral and more hyper coral. It's bright, but in my opinion, one of the best looking trail racers on the market... that's all the good. The bad... I couldn't for the life of me get the heel to lock down and on more technical downhills I felt like my heel was all over the place. The heel fit is better than in the OG Mont Blanc, but better doesn't mean great.
started running carbon with the Vectiv, now discontinued. Been off and on with Altra over the years since Brian and Golden started the conpany. These are for real. Amazing fit and control. I run a 100 miler about once a month and 2-3 200s a year. Excited to put them through the grinder. With a recent spine injury I don’t have full control of my right calf and these provide me the extra stability I need. Thanks Bronco and the Altra team!
Tried on after ordering online, fit was true to size I normally order, color was very pink, SMELL was horrendous!! I had to put them in the garage so as to not loose any more brain cells overnight. The sole was very flexible, much more than what I expected with a full carbon rock plate! I was hoping for a more rigid sole to protect feet from the jagged rocky trails we have here in the Arizona desert. Had to return them before even taking a run in them cuz I knew I couldn't live with the stink.
I bought these shoes a couple of months ago. Last year I purchased Vivobarefoot Magna Forest Esc Womens shoes for hiking/ walking the dog, etc. I liked the zero drop and the lightweight feel, but also the stability of the shoe. Was looking for something similar in a sneaker. Tried these on in the store. Made sure to have a half inch of room at the top of my big toe. I have loved these every day. I love the thin tongue, the light cushioning. The color is vibrant and makes me smile. While I ran 50 miles a week in my 20s, as I older I dropped running and have been biking more. Pondering trying to get back into running, and the few times I have jogged a in these they felt fine. I do wear them when I biking or taking the dog for as long walk. Also good for walking all around New York City. ☺️ I usually wear an 8 in women’s shoes and am 8 in these is what I bought.
TLDR: GOOD: going fast on dry, flat/hard trails, fit, toe box, cushion BAD: anything technical, soft/muddy terrain, and major durability issues with exposed foam Shoe is very comfortable, and breathable. Cushion is perfect. Good traction on hard packed or non-technical trails. Relatively flexible for a carbon shoe with great energy return. Definitely feel a bit of a pop/boost when picking up the pace. Pretty responsive. Love the upper material. With a lace lock, I did not experience the heel slippage issue that others have noted. However, the exposed ego foam on the bottom of the shoe in the mid foot region is a huge mistake. The durability is just awful. After just a few miles in the shoes, the exposed foam portions already showed some wear. The vibram holds up well, but not the ego foam. While I recognize these are intended for strictly trail racing, I did also opt to put them to the test in a muddy obstacle course race and the exposed foam portions are pretty shredded up. Despite this, and the limited traction in the mud, they still performed well. Would really love to see a version that has more outsole durability for my more technical races. Moving to vibram is a step in the right direction, but the exposed foam on in the midsole region is the weakness. If you are looking for a fast trail shoe, run primarily on hard trails, want some mild benefits from the carbon plate paired with wide toe box and responsive foam, then this is your shoe. If you want something durable and rugged, or run trails softer than gravel/super hard dirt, you may want to look elsewhere. Worth it on a sale, but $260 retail is a bit much in my opinion if the exposed foam is shredded and torn so easily. 3.5/5 stars.
I wanted to lake these shoes but they are far too narrow for me, I usually wear a 9.5 wide. Altra I am begging you to make a wide version of these.
