Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked for me This stuff works for me. Mosquitoes love me. I was in Yosemite for a week and I brought this and a DEET repellent as a backup. I never had to use the other one. I usually come back from outdoor adventures with bug bites AND a rash from chemicals. The odor is strong, but it didn't bother me. I think I was so happy that I found something that was working that it was worth it. The spray pump did stop working a couple times. I had to shake it, fiddle with it a little and it would start up again. A few others in the group were using this kind as well and loved it. But a few others tried it and it didn't work for them. So I would suggest a trial run with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Natural, nice scent, and effective I've used this all-natural alternative to DEET for extended hiking trips and love this product. It works beautifully - never got bit on any area where I applied it despite seeing mosquitoes buzzing around me all day. The first time I used it, I didn't put it on my clothes and I learned my lesson - ever since I spray it on my skin and my clothes. I love the refreshing smell of it, and have no problem spraying it on my skin repeatedly throughout the day. For day-long adventures it will need to be reapplied, but it doesn't feel sticky or gross so I'm OK with that. I like using this a lot better than using DEET, which is a seriously harsh chemical and something I hate leaving on my skin overnight on my trips.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Stinky, can work if fully applied often. PRO: _ Works when applied thoroughly on exposed skin. CONS: _ STRONG ODOR, sometimes even funky/moldy smell, that repels humans as well as mosquitoes when first applied. _ PUMP DOESN'T SPRAY RELIABLY; used the spray's stem to spread over every inch of my skin. _ Speaking of which, it NEEDS TO BE APPLIED ON EVERY INCH OF EXPOSED SKIN or else mosquitoes bite bare spots. _ BOTTLE LEAKS; I had to keep them in a Ziploc bag. _ Says works "for up to 6 hours" but it hasn't yet; needs to be reapplied often, at least every 2 hours. Again, COMPLETELY all over exposed skin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective DEET alternative, with caveats I'm a natural mosquito magnet. In bug-heavy areas, I get eaten alive while my friends are left alone. A good bug repellent is essential. DEET eats up clothes and gear, and I'd rather not smear it all over my body if I can avoid it. I've tried different DEET-free alternatives with varying degrees of success. This particular spray has been effective for me against thick clouds of mosquitoes in the Cascades and Olympics; however, there are some downsides. First of all, I have to use a lot of repellent. I aim for full coverage of all exposed skin and thin clothing. Second, I need to reapply every few hours, especially when I'm sweating. The 4 oz. container would be about right for a several days of backpacking in a buggy area. Don't underestimate! When applied liberally, this stuff can be a life saver.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works, if you use it right This is the only spay that for me keeps deer flys and all other biting pests away. Like other reviews mention you have to get this over all the surface areas. You can't "mist" it like you would using a can of "off." It works best for me when I spray it on my t-shirt back and shoulders before putting it on, and on my hat. Then spay the rest of my skin. In hot weather you do need to put more on as you can sweat this stuff off. And yes, the smell is quite strong but it's not a bad smell, just powerful. However the smell is why it works and I find that I get used to it quickly. I don't use this for day hikes, just for long backpacking trips as my friends keep far away from me for the day. It's not for every one. For some it works, for others it does not. I would recommend it but do a trail run on a solo day hike to see if it works for you before depending solely on it in the back country.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great literally applied. I found out hourly application of this spray keeps everything away, even people.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great for some After several years of using this stuff, here is my review. I know it says it repels mosquitoes...but it doesn't. It repels black flies, no-see-ums and biting gnats. I use DEET roll-on sticks for Mosquitoes. I also barely spray this on my skin. It lasts longer when sprayed on clothing - hats, socks, pant cuffs and shirt sleeves. Always spray some on the back of your shirt, on your shoulders especially. On bare skin on the Middle Fork Snoqualmie, this product gives about 20 minutes of deterent. On clothing, count on one hour, then reapply. If you can still smell it, its still working. What the 65% of the other ingredients are, I have no clue. I have used 100% Eucylyptus oil, and burned my skin where I did not spread it out. Maybe they need that 65% fluff to keep from burning people. Not sure. This stuff is always in my summer gear kit, right with the DEET and Anti-itch gel. Highly effective with kids of all ages - adults should apply this for them. A little goes a long way, and over application does not offer any benefit. Its much more effective to reapply small amounts at one hour intervals.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Worth It It's a neat idea, but that's about it. I took this to Yosemite last summer and it failed me. I was being bit by literally thousands of mosquitos. I think that it might have perhaps worked with marginal effectiveness (which is why it earned 2 instead of 1 stars for my review); however, the degree to which it warded off mosquitos was not even close to enough to provide comfort. Fortunately my friend had packed 3M UltraThon Insect Repellent 34% DEET (which worked wonderfully). This product does not work as advertised and is not worth it, based on my experiences with it.
