Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Can't Go Wrong
This is a great trail running shoe. The 4mm drop is a sweet spot for me. I have two pair of the original Wild's and have over 250 miles on each pair. The 2's feel great and need no break in time. I am normally a 9 1/2, but order a 10 in this shoe. I have around 40 miles on the 2's and find they are as comfortable and cushioned as the 1's. I'll be sticking with the Wild line as long as Altra makes them. I am 70 yrs. old and have been running for about 50 years. These are the best trail shoes I have owned.

Terrible
In typical Altra fashion, they create a decent shoe that needs some tweaks and then they introduce the next gen model that are completely garbage. You can feel the seam of the tongue because for some reason they still are attaching the tongue to the shoe. With every step you can feel the upper crease above your toes. The upper is maybe an inch tall from the sole to your ankle...it's incredibly low resulting in insane heel slippage. I keep trying to go back to altras but because every new model has significant changes I just can't. I tried again and will be sticking with my Topos. This brand used to be amazing. It was the standard. And not they can't even come close to the bar.

Great fit. Stomp in these.

I've been running and hiking in these for about 4 months and really like them. They replace my Lone Peak 9s on longer days (12+ miles/ 20+ kilometers) when I want more cushion. The toe is huge so I'm glad I did not size up. The rocker shape is subtle and they feel stable on technical trails. Water drains out quickly and the upper dries fast. I have not ripped the upper yet despite kicking many rocks and sharp sticks. The outsole is grippy even in damp conditions. Kind of feels like a Hoka with an Altra toe box. Minus 1 star because I wish all trail shoes from Altra had thicker outsoles. I think the extra weight would be worth a longer lasting product.

Great shoes

Very comfortable trail runners. I've been an Altra loyalist for quite some time now, and some shoes are definitely better than others when it's time for a run or a hike. I've worn these for about 2 months now for my morning routine, and I'm already planning to buy a second pair. They look great too--the olive green color is very nice and understated without being boring.

Great for both trail and city hiking!

The Experience Wild 2 trail runners are the most comfortable hiking shoes I've ever worn! The Lone Peaks used to be my favorite, but I like these Experience Wild shoes even more. I've tested the Experience Wild shoes over the past 4 months on everything from sandy and rocky beach hikes to coastal bluff and forest trails, High Sierra backpacking, and urban hiking up and down the hills of San Francisco. I hope that Altra will keep the Experience Wild shoes relatively unchanged as the years go by and will also make a GTX version for rainy, muddy hikes.

Comfortable but not durable

Developed a weak area then small tear in the right shoe, toward the outside of the toe box. The left shoe was also starting to tear. Still had plenty of tread left.

I like this shoe

This is the best road to trail shoe for comfort and performance. Wide toe box is important for me. 4mm drop works.

Great fit and comfort on the trail and around town

I have some significant foot issues due to arthritis and I have had surgery to remove bone spurs. Finding comfortable shoes can be a challenge. I have tried a wide variety of shoes and the Altra trail-running shoes are the most comfortable shoes I have found. I usually wear a size 10 but the Altra in a 10.5 fits perfectly with no slipping and no pressure points on my feet. I now have three pairs of Altra shoes and I can walk and hike without pain.
