Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

Bought 2 pairs of mont blancs to train for Camino Frances. No blisters, aches or pains. Dried overnight after heavy rain and wind. Lasted for over 550 miles. Wouldn’t wear anything else.
These actually run small. I saw several reviews that said these run big. They do not. I normally wear a 10 in Altras (Lone Peak & Superior), but these were at least a half size too short. The width was great, just short length. Also, these are listed as being fairly plush; however, I did not reorder these in a larger size because there was too much cushion for my preference in the forefoot area. While this might help some with propulsion in speedwork, I was afraid it would hinder my ability to feel the ground. I need to feel the ground more to be stable. On a positive note, the colors were great, and I didn't feel the heel slippage issue others mentioned in reviews.
tread fell off within first couple runs, then totally off during race (not to mention toe box and insole rips) - heal also weird stitching
I had a hard time deciding between 2 or 3 stars. These shoes have great cushion, comfortable and breathable upper, and the roomy toe box I appreciate in my Altras. HOWEVER...the laces are super short (not a huge deal, I can replace the laces) and there is a tragic design flaw: a stiff vertical line of prominent stitching in the inside of the heel, right up the back. It rubs the back of my heel through my sock and the first time I did a longer outing in these, I ended up with a blister. I showed it to several Altra-loyal runner friends for their thoughts, and we all were scratching our heads about this feature. I have covered those seams with cotton kinesiotape to avoid blisters, and the tape lasts for several outings. So it's a work around to avoid the blisters at least, though if I'm on steep terrain, I still sometimes get a sore spot through sock and tape. So the Mont Blanc is the only Altra model I've had that I would not recommend, only due to those odd seams. If they correct this element (since Altra often redesigns their shoes), I will try the new version.
Very comfortable and perfect for running.
Lining of insert peeled off on first outing.
normally wear women's 11, bought an 11 and it fit. ran about a total of 30 miles over several months, I kept getting frustrated with rocks coming inside shoe even with gators. plus feeling my heels lifting was not pleasant. so i kept using older Salomon. I finally decided I needed to return these shoes bc for over$100. I should really have liked these shoes. I couldn't get either of my heels to get locked in, even with runner loop heel laced. even with different laces, which actually did help some with the way the round laces kept untying. also the size 10.5 my toe was practically at the end of shoe, so 11 is correct size. cushion was excellent. responsive. could still maneuver rocky terrain without loss of stability or feeling my feet getting beat up, lol. I really wanted these to work bc I love the wide toe box. I tried topo athletic b4 these and even with or without orthotics the topos aggravated my plantar's. I have low volume, flat feet. I tried the timps, and it didn't feel good even in store, olympus feel like blocks. back to looking for running shoes, I totally get goldilocks!
They are worth the hype! These are more comfortable than my la sportivas! My only complaint would be the rubber blister tabs on the back but otherwise amazing shoes!
The tongue had zero padding. Which for my boney ankles was comfortable. My achilles became sore after wearing them a day, due to the heel being lower than the front of the shoe.
