Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

I bough these Mont Blancs to replace my trusty Timp 1.5s that have over 1000miles on them. Well the MBs fell apart after 25miles in the Whites of NH. Poor fit, terrible quality. Not happy

Great performance, poor quality

First off, straight out of the box this shoe is a performer! Didn't have the heel issue many have stated, but I also always use a heel lock when lacing my shoes. Stellar grip in every instance except for deep mud, but nothing unexpected from a racing shoe with moderate lugs. The issue I have with this shoe is by around 155-160 miles the Vibram Litebase outsole has begun coming unglued. Which for a shoe that costs what this model does, one would expect better durability. If this started to occur after 300+ miles, sure you'd be disappointed but also kinda get it. If I had tore the upper because of sloppy pass through a boulder field on day 1, thats on me. But for it to happen as quickly as it had, I'd be leary if you're considering this shoe right now. I put in a warranty claim, with everything Altra asked for, but as of yet, I haven't heard a word. Not even a "we got your claim, and will be reviewing it." I really wanted to love this shoe, but the build quality and lack of response has me wishing they had a 1/2 star option because even 3 feels a little high. Hopefully they get the few issues others have mentioned into a conversation for a 2.0 version and really put out the show every one dreamed this would be, but if they don't address the simple things like keeping the sole glued on, that won't matter. Disappointing overall for an otherwise stellar performer.

I had high hopes but lackluster quality

I was really excited to try this shoe and have a little more cushioning for my longer trail runs, however after only 3 runs in them they are falling apart. The outsole on the front of the right shoe is peeling off and the tongue of the left shoe is almost completely separated. The para cord lacing also caused lots of pain on my right foot at the second to top lace hole that I couldn't really solve. It's not all bad as the fit was better than I expected with the standard fit as I really love the Original fit the Lone peaks offer. For the price point the quality and durability is really lacking.

Poor Quality - Vibram outsole peeling off after 5 runs

I really love the fit and performance of all of Altra's shoes. I have seen quality issues with some models and the Mont Blanc seems have consistent quality issues with the glue that is used for the outsole. After only 5 runs the vibram outsole is peeling off of both shoes in multiple places. It is a total "out of box" failure.

Poor quality all around.

Out of the box these felt great. Light. Cushioned. Fast. The heel slippage is real and annoying but I was able to use a lockdown method of tying to eliminate it. It was all downhill from there though. The toe caps started peeling off after the first hike of only 8 miles. Contacted Altra and was told that's standard wear and tear and not covered by the warranty. 8 miles before they start falling apart! Hope no one tries to do 10 miles in them. I used them occasionally for the rest of the summer because I couldn't afford another pair. Fine materials find their way behind that toe cap so once it peels be prepared to constantly be removing "stuff" from the inside of your shoe. Whatever the thin material is holds scents worse than any other shoe I've ever owned. I let these air out for a couple of months and they still stunk. So I hand washed them like crazy and replaced the laces (the original laces are absolute junk, stiff and short) in them in an effort to make them not smell as bad. Put them next to a standard heat vent in my house (nothing too hot or direct) and the insoles shrunk! Now I have to find a replacement for an non-standard insole. Buy something better.

Born to Run 1st OA at my 100mile race

Before embarking on my 100 mile ultramarathon, I got a couple of good solid runs in the shoes. Made my adjustments to my feet, then it was off to the races. These shoes really gave back to me with the grip and bounce. I was able to maintain some great speed throughout the whole race. Didn't once have any foot pain, or loose any toenails. I won the 100 and the shoes are still in great shape!

Good but not great

This is my first pair of altra. Had to go a half size down and they are comfortable. Did a couple of short runs to break them in and then a 55k. Made it through with no issues even with the short laces. The upper is already showing signs of bad wear. Don't think they will last 150 miles at this rate. Like them but don't love them will be going back to Hoka
