The Norvan Insulated Jacket exceeded expectations on a -20°C trail run! The adjustable hood was a game-changer, even with mitts on, providing quick protection and comfort. Despite some wind, the jacket kept me warm and fully shielded for two hours of exposure. The reverse pocket was a brilliant feature—perfect for stashing nutrition and an extra neck warmer with zero bounce. I also loved the extended wrist length, which seamlessly covered my watch and eliminated any gap between mitt and sleeve. This jacket is a winter trail essential!
Used this on a few winter trail runs now for 1-2hrs, and overall really happy with it. I like the length, and the insulation is in the right spots - it’s more comfortable in terms of heat management than my atom sl and proton sl (my previous go-to jackets for colder runs). I don’t mind the fact that it only has the small single pocket - I can wear a vest if I want to bring a bunch of stuff. The only con I think is that the arms are quite short. I’m 5’6 with normal/shorter limbs and can barely fit the little built in mitten flaps over my hands (a feature which I LOVE). Would love to see the arms a little longer on this jacket.
The perfect layer DOES exist. For cold weather running, hiking, and even biking, this jacket has all the right insulation in all the right places. It will even be a great layer for high summer backcountry trips. My fav features? Don’t even get me started on the built in mittens — for those of us with Reynauds, the extra bit of hand warmth is a dream! The single pocket fits my phone, which is all I need it to do. I will most often wear this layer with a pack so I’d rather it be streamlined. All in all, this is my new fav layer. You can tell it was designed by runners for runners — they really did think of everything!
Absolutely LOVE the Norvan hoody for those chilly fall runs! The jacket is lightweight, has built in mitten sleeves for your hands, nice big hood, and 1 side pocket. I recommend only running in this jacket if it is chilly out since it does not have the most breathable ventilation. I am 5’3 with a small in the red color and it fits perfectly! This jacket is so comfy and warm and will be my go to running jacket in the fall/winter.
The 2025 version of this jacket is absolutely perfect, its everything I've ever wanted in a winter running jacket. I love that the back is not insulated, that its a bit shorter, that it has the built-in "mittens", the hood is effortlessly fitted, it has a zippered pocket, that you can zip the neck all the way up and its not swallowing your face its just enough to cover your neck and keep you warmer. Its so good all around! The 2024 version of this jacket fit me really poorly, so I hesitantly tried this years and am so happy I did!
Super light and packable, this is perfect for winter hike/trail run. Surprisingly warm for such light material , I felt comfortable and not overheated during a cold winter hike. Also found the flip- mitts very useful. This jacket was a bit shorter and fitted compared with Atom (my everyday go to) and went well with my waist pack. (I use lumber pack rather than back pack during hikes.) though there was room for layering underneath. Overall works well for my purpose and happy with the purchase.
I purchased this expecting it to be something I could stay dry in while trail running. It does not appear to be waterproof as it It felt very similar to the Atom only a little bit more light weight. It also runs a bit smaller than the Atom. If I kept it I would have had to go a size up. For reference I am 5’3 130 pounds and I normally wear a small in Arcteryz but with this jacket I would have had to return and get a size medium.
I love this jacket, except for one very important thing! It has no proper pockets! It only has one backwards pocket which is difficult to get your hand into. This jacket could be a lot more functional if they would only add functional pockets to it!
