Great for 9 year old! We took her on a 3-day trip with hikes to Joshua Tree on some warm days. The pack was a great size for her, held a good amount of water, was easy for her to fill and use, and there was a surprising amount of storage space as well. She seemed comfortable carrying it during our hikes and it was easy for her to stay hydrated which was our goal! I could even see this working for smaller adults. It’s got good capacity for water and other supplies and does not look “kid-ish.” Very happy with it so far.
