Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I loved my Torin 5’s, so I bought a pair of Torin 6’s in April. It’s now August and the stitching on the inside of both shoes above the soles are coming apart. Also, the rubber under my toes are almost completely gone. I don’t understand. These shoes were expensive and all I do is walk in them and work in a deli restaurant in them. I love them for the comfort, but why are the 6’s falling apart so quickly?
I am so bummed with the Altra Torins. I have been a huge fan of Altras for a long time and was super stoked to get these. Unfortunately they did not live up to the usual great quality Altra is known for. The bottom of the sole has started to peel of with minimal mileage on them, and the tongue of the shoe causes sores on your leg even when wearing taller socks or leggings. These have been sitting in my closet, barely used for months due to these issues. Super bummed with these shoes, and even more bummed I missed the year return slot for REI.
Terrible, terrible, terrible. I loved the feel but these shoes began to fall apart within the first few weeks! First the logo began to peel off the side, then the soles came loose, and within just a few months time I had to buy new work shoes. I wore these twice a week—and while they were very comfortable, they were NOT durable! Very expensive for a shoe fell by apart so quickly! I should have returned them as soon as the logo peeled off!
Fit great, but like many others have commented there are significant quality issues with this model. Despite only being used for walking, the sole and fabric at forefoot crease started to come apart after a few months. I have Escalantes that have survived years of similar use without anything of the sort.
I loved my torin 4’s so much that I had three pairs of them. When I purchased the torin 5, I immediately had issues with the tongue (along with the rest of wearers). I returned them and prayed that by the time the 6’s came out the issue would be resolved. I can see they tried to address it but cutting out a small piece of fabric but it’s still an issue and I do not understand. Is anyone at Altra actually wearing the models they make before they’re sent to production? The photo below shows the torin 6 on my left foot, and the torin 4 on my right. Notice the tongue. Do yourself a favorite, don’t waste your time, get a different shoe. Major bummer!!!
After 2 weeks, the glue holding the tread to the shoe started wearing away. After just 3 months of use, the upper mesh part of the shoe ripped apart and there are holes in the mesh on both shoes. All I have worn them for is light walking and sitting at work. Horrible quality and these will be the last pair of Altras I ever buy. And REI would NOT allow me to return them even though I purchased them just this past July claiming that because there is "wear" on the treads that they have "lived their full life." 3 MONTHS is a full life for a pair of shoes?! Give me a break.
Wore for two weeks to break them in with only mild use and then went on one longer hike and the tread on the bottom of the shoe is already peeling off entirely. They are comfortable and help with my heel pain while walking, but unfortunately not worth the price since they are already coming apart.
I am not a runner but Torin has been my favorite show for long walks, and everyday life. I have two pairs of the Torin 5, recently added the Torin 6 which has more cushion, probably good for running but I enjoyed the grounded feeling in the Torin 5, made me feel stable. A nice wide toe base, I can feel my toes roll, perfect to relieve bunion pressure. I see the Torin 7 has maximum cushion so I may need to find another style. Can’t comment yet on durability yet but my Torin 5’s are still wearable. I have seen negative reviews on the shoe tongue this has never been a problem for me as a walker.
My foot splays when i step down so i need a wide shoe. This toe box gives me plenty of room!
Darn, I wish I would have read the reviews before I bought my shoes. I have to Torin 6 Road-running shoes and the material tore, just like some of the other people. Also really liked them, I love how comfortable they are but they are pricey to have this happen…it seems like poor quality in the fabric. I haven’t ever had this happen before in a tennis shoe. In previous shoes, the sole wears out long before the fabric! I tried to take pic, but it would let me add the photo.
