Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Torin my favorite
I am not a runner but Torin has been my favorite show for long walks, and everyday life. I have two pairs of the Torin 5, recently added the Torin 6 which has more cushion, probably good for running but I enjoyed the grounded feeling in the Torin 5, made me feel stable. A nice wide toe base, I can feel my toes roll, perfect to relieve bunion pressure. I see the Torin 7 has maximum cushion so I may need to find another style. Can’t comment yet on durability yet but my Torin 5’s are still wearable. I have seen negative reviews on the shoe tongue this has never been a problem for me as a walker.

Don’t buy this style of Altras!
Terrible, terrible, terrible. I loved the feel but these shoes began to fall apart within the first few weeks! First the logo began to peel off the side, then the soles came loose, and within just a few months time I had to buy new work shoes. I wore these twice a week—and while they were very comfortable, they were NOT durable! Very expensive for a shoe fell by apart so quickly! I should have returned them as soon as the logo peeled off!

Torin 6 doesn’t last at all

I loved my Torin 5’s, so I bought a pair of Torin 6’s in April. It’s now August and the stitching on the inside of both shoes above the soles are coming apart. Also, the rubber under my toes are almost completely gone. I don’t understand. These shoes were expensive and all I do is walk in them and work in a deli restaurant in them. I love them for the comfort, but why are the 6’s falling apart so quickly?

Not Altra's normal great quality

I am so bummed with the Altra Torins. I have been a huge fan of Altras for a long time and was super stoked to get these. Unfortunately they did not live up to the usual great quality Altra is known for. The bottom of the sole has started to peel of with minimal mileage on them, and the tongue of the shoe causes sores on your leg even when wearing taller socks or leggings. These have been sitting in my closet, barely used for months due to these issues. Super bummed with these shoes, and even more bummed I missed the year return slot for REI.

Tread doesn't last

I have been wearing this shoe only for workout classes (weightlifting and bootcamp classes) only about 2-3 times a week. I only started wearing them on 14 November and the tread is already peeling bad. This shoe has been awesome and I love how much wider the toe is but I can't workout safely if the tread is buckling and flapping underneath me. Now I can't even return them because it's been more than 30 days since I bought them. I'm afraid I can't use them anymore now.

Wonderful Women's Altra Torin 6 Running Shoe

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have worn this shoe for three days straight now and I love them. I have tried multiple brands of athletic shoes and there is always an issue with fit and comfort. These shoes are like clouds on your feet. I have run with them, walked with them, worn them to go do errands and in each scenario my feet felt as good when I took them off as they were when I put them on. I would and will buy another pair of these!

So disappointed, the tongue strikes again!

I loved my torin 4’s so much that I had three pairs of them. When I purchased the torin 5, I immediately had issues with the tongue (along with the rest of wearers). I returned them and prayed that by the time the 6’s came out the issue would be resolved. I can see they tried to address it but cutting out a small piece of fabric but it’s still an issue and I do not understand. Is anyone at Altra actually wearing the models they make before they’re sent to production? The photo below shows the torin 6 on my left foot, and the torin 4 on my right. Notice the tongue. Do yourself a favorite, don’t waste your time, get a different shoe. Major bummer!!!

Beware of Poor Quality

Fit great, but like many others have commented there are significant quality issues with this model. Despite only being used for walking, the sole and fabric at forefoot crease started to come apart after a few months. I have Escalantes that have survived years of similar use without anything of the sort.

Comfortable and easy to wear

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These shoes are great. First thing I noticed was a wider toe. I wasn't sure how that would feel but it was great. My toes felt supported but could move around and didn't feel squished after running. And overall, everything felt very comfortable. The cushioning is great for running, but it doesn't feel overly padded or soft. Also, these shoes are so easy to get on and off. Many running shoes I feel like are more stiff or just not the easy to slide on but these were great. No need to break in slowly, they were great from the get-go. The laces also stayed tied nicely through my runs. I used these mainly for road running and my feet felt great the entire time!

Horrible Quality, Do NOT buy Altras

After 2 weeks, the glue holding the tread to the shoe started wearing away. After just 3 months of use, the upper mesh part of the shoe ripped apart and there are holes in the mesh on both shoes. All I have worn them for is light walking and sitting at work. Horrible quality and these will be the last pair of Altras I ever buy. And REI would NOT allow me to return them even though I purchased them just this past July claiming that because there is "wear" on the treads that they have "lived their full life." 3 MONTHS is a full life for a pair of shoes?! Give me a break.

Mixed review

I walk a couple of miles morning and evening with my dog. I absolutely love the feel. So comfortable and surprisingly supportive of my high arch. The support and comfort has not budged since I bought them. The wide toe box is everything!!! Complaints. The outer materials are not holding up. There are holes where my big toes are on the top, and yes the length is fine. And the bottoms are peeling away. It's become a tripping hazard. It's very frustrating because these shoes are pricey and as much as I want to, I don't know if I can bring myself to buy another pair. Also, I would love it if these came in an all weather option. Morning dew alone soaks my toes walking in grass.
