Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Lightweight running shoe
Received free product
I received these shoes for free from the REI Trailblazers sampling program in exchange for my honest review. Pros: lightweight, well-made, nice aesthetics Cons: too much cushioning / too springy I think these are a great pair of shoes for a regular runner. Personally, my ankles need a lot of support when running, and l felt these shoes were just too springy and lightweight for my needs. But they're very comfortable and clearly designed with runners in mind. Would recommend.

Unraveling rapidly
The Torin 7s are my first pair of Altras. My foot doc recommended them as my feet are wide and have arthritis in both. It took me a minute to get used to the zero drop but now I’m a fan. I love these shoes but after just over two months they’ve started ripping on both sides near the top lace where my foot bends. I wear them indoors 4 days a week. I’m sorry but that’s unacceptable for any shoe. As a nurse my running shoes typically last me 6-10 months depending on the shoe. I am so disappointed because I finally found a shoe I love.

Comfortable and springy running shoe

Received free product

The Altra Torin 7 is a very comfortable and springy shoe with a wide toe box (I can see where this wouldn’t be a good shoe for someone with a more narrow foot). Normally I run in Brooks Levitate shoes, which have more minimal cushion. These shoes felt like a good amount of cushion — more than my Levitate, but not too much where it felt like it would impact my gait. The fabric was breathable during a long run and is stretchy (nice if you have a bunion like me). I also appreciated the flat laces, which didn’t unlace during my runs. The one thing I didn’t like was the back of the shoe, which is higher than my other running shoes. I felt it rubbing and need to use a bandaid until it breaks in more.

Comfy, light shoe for daily runs

Received free product

The first thing I noticed putting these on was how cushioned they are, like having a spring under my heel. I ran a few 3-5 mile road runs in them and definitely felt a good bounce to them. The only downside to the cushion was that, when I added my insoles, my heel tended to pop up a bit in back. In general, I prefer a stiffer sole and less cushion, especially for longer runs, but I appreciate how light they are (about 8 oz per the description) and how soft the uppers are (no stiff edging). Definitely a comfortable shoe.

Torin 7

Torin 7 wide run long and narrow. Torin 5 7.5 wide fit me like a glove. Torn 7 I needed to size down and the toe box was less foot shaped. The wides were at least on the wide side the Torin 6s wide were not even close to wides. I wish Altra would keep the foot shape and have more wide options!

Great neutral fit but fabric split quickly

I bought these shoes because I tried them on in-store at the recommendation of an employee and they do help fix some issues I was having with my gait. I supinate and hurt the outside of my feet so having a neutral base helps. I also tend to hit the ground more with the front of my feet and my previous shoes had drop that exacerbated that effect, so having these zero-drop shoes also helped improve that. However, within two months of owning these, the fabric right around the widest part of the toe box has split. This was disappointing to see happen so quickly. I don't think I have wide feet, in that I don't need to buy wide shoes, and I usually only see this happen in shoes that I've used for close to a year or even longer. I have mostly only used these shoes for walking around the city comfortably. For shoes that are known for having a wide toebox for increased stability, I would've thought the fabric around the toe box wouldn't be a weak point. Almost four months in with honestly very little use over the holiday season, the split in the fabric has only gotten worse and started spreading through the design.

big fan of these shoes!

Received free product

This is my first pair of Altras and I have been liking them a lot for road running so far. I got a half size smaller than normal (7 instead of 7.5) and they still fit great. I like the wide toe box, and the upper is overall super soft and comfy. They are quite cushioned, which also makes them super comfortable. The laces are a little short, I have to pull them pretty tight to have enough to double knot, but it doesn't detract from the shoes. Overall really liking the Torin 7 and looking forward to wearing them more!

These are being returned

i've had 2 pairs of torin 6's and opted for the 7 when they went on sale. these are so different from the torin 6 and in no good ways.. they arguably don't have a foot shaped toe box which is what altra's main selling point is to me. these are very narrow and therefore too small. quite disappointed. additionally the laces are too tight and even though they're very cushion-y, i found the foam to be pretty inflexible. did not leave the house or put these to the test at all bc i knew they were too small immediately.

Awesome walking shoe (great for running also)

I absolutely love this shoe and have been walking in it every day since receiving it two months ago. I sometimes also take short jogs, or intersperse my walks with sprints. The shoe makes me WANT to run! I opted for a road running shoe rather than a trail runner, even though I knew I would be taking it on dirt and trails in addition to pavement, because my hope was that the slightly denser rubber on the sole might last longer. So far it works great – I’ve had it on dirt, rocks, inclines, ice and snow… The only reason I take off a star is that the Achilles portion is a little bit unnecessarily high for my tastes. Sometimes I notice it digging in a little bit when I walk. But so far it hasn’t caused any actual trouble.

Comfy, but don’t last

I got my shoes around 9 months ago and even now, they are still comfortable to wear at work when I’m on my feet for multiple hours at a time and on walks. However, around the one month mark, I noticed that the fabric on the sides began to rip and the fabric has been degrading rapidly ever since. The shoes still have good life in them but I fear I’ll have to retire them due to the huge holes they now have and have had for months. They are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn so it’s disappointing to have them last such a short time while being as expensive as they are.
