tent cannot be used without the rainfly. the two doors are used for ventilation, so the tent is an oven in summer. but because the tent itself has a mesh ceiling, then in spite of the rainfly, it's freezing in the early and late summer. the zipper design for the doors is very user unfriendly and borderline nonfunctional. the inside pockets are triangular in shape so that "stuff" just falls out. poles are are so thin that ours collapsed in an approaching thunderstorm on the third use. the collapsed poles tore the rainfly, which is what provides the structural support and keeps the tent standing. our tent collapsed leaving us REALLY stuck. absolutely NO customer support from big agnes. after many, many email exchanges with photos, etc, and even more phone calls, i gave up. everyone i interacted with at big agnes was rude and seemingly unwilling to provide any information, let alone support.
This tent is spacious, simple enough to set up (though it is very tall, so doing it alone is a challenge; with two people it's a breeze) and made of high quality materials. We have had Big Agnes tents before, and the biggest issue they have had is the zipper quality. This latest one seems to have addressed that, as the zipper is noticeably more rugged. Just remember to clean and lubricate the zippers every couple of uses and it should be fine. The review here that says this tent cannot be used without the rainfly is definitely wrong. In fact, the setup process tells you with common sense that isn't the case. You set up the tent without the rainfly before putting the rainfly on - it provides no additional structural function. The tent body has regular doors, as does the rainfly/vestibule. Big Agnes has supported us several times over the years, giving us new poles when we bent one putting it away. If you are looking for a stand-up height tent that can accommodate 3-4 adults, this is a good option. The new colors are really nice - I personally hate bright-colored gear that is visible from a mile away. The one thing that isn't the best are the stakes - there isn't enough of a lip on them to keep the guy lines secured so you have to ensure that they are set at a pretty steep angle.
