Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

The Mont Blanc shoe became available 4 days before our trip to hike the Swiss Alps via the Haute Route. We ordered the shoes had them shipped next day and left for the alps two days later. 140 miles and 40,000 feet of elevation and we still love these shoes. They have great grip for boulder hopping and were so light weight yet had solid support and traction. I'd highly recommend this shoe straight out of the box!
200 miles in and I'm loving these shoes. Over the last 10 years, I've had a mix of Altra and Hoka and these are by far my favorite between Altra Lone Peaks, Hoka Torrent, and Hoke Evo Mafate. It all comes down to the BOA system. I can micro adjust on the fly which serves me well on steep ascents/descents vs rolling single track sections. I recently had a 50k race where there was a knee deep stream crossing just 2km into the race. Without laces and with their lightweight material, they dried very quickly and worked better than any other shoe I've ever had after a stream crossing. Looking forward to more colorways.
Usually I wait until 100 miles before I write a review but these shoes only made it until 80 miles before they started breaking down. The durability is not great. May be good shoes for 5K races.

Broke the BOA lace after 30 miles. Ironically, the lace broke when I was descending a couloir in the Maroon Bells Wilderness. Would not recommend any of these shoes for ANY off trail use. Customer service is always great with returns but I have yet to be impressed by durability.
Put about 200-300 trail miles on this shoe so far. Once i figured out how to dial them in properly, the fit is actually great. I am now even able the minimize the heel slippage that the shoe has while staying comfortable and not cutting off circulation. Love the way the shoe performs on the trail. But Unfortunately my left shoe just developed a hole over the big toe. I believe this is related to the lack of a proper toe cap that most trail shoes have (also hurts badly when you stub your toe on a rock during your run!). I definitely expect better durability from a shoe in this price class. Very disappointed and sad - because I really love running in it.
Firstly, I didn't break these in properly before I ran my marathon in them. So keep that in mind. Pros: Stable Good traction Enough cushion Faster then my other shoes, decently so. The fastening system is great. Took several hard hits into roots etc and held up being filled with sand and mud. Cons: Arch was to a bit to high for my flat feet. Thin upper that doesn't offer protection from sticks and impacts. (Recomend gaiter) Heel is flat and you get slipping or feeling like it will slip out of the shoe Toe box isn't full sized.
definitely a rocksolid top performing trainer and Race shoe. Aggressive, tread and rubber That grips even wet rock. Tons of cushion, but still incredibly responsive and energetic.. I don't feel like I'm losing a lot of energy to the dampening that I have felt with some earlier generation shoes like the lone Peak. The shoe is not as wide as has been traditional with altra. Lastly, the boa lacing system is the best. I have been waiting for running shoes to adopt this system as it allows you to fine tune even on the run. Really great to not have to make a full stop to tie my shoe in the middle of a race or timed effort and instead just give a couple, clicks and keep running.
I reallllllly wanted to like this shoe. I had read reviews about the lack of heel lock and hoped the BOA would save the day. Unfortunately it did not, for my feet at least. I ended up with blisters on the sides of both my heels and discomfort on the top of one foot from having to lock down the BOA so hard to try to reduce the heel slipping. Unfortunately I'll be returning these. If it weren't for those bummers, the shoes felt great and fast and are very good looking.
I love the shoe but hate the color. Orange is not maroon; the pictures even depict the shoe color as maroon. You need to change the picture and title of the shoe color. Who wears orange shoes other than Tennessee fans????
Great long run cushion without losing feel or stability. The BOA system is perfect for quick adjustments & comfort. I run nothing but trails and they handle the rough stuff with no problems.
