This most excellent piece provides all that's needed in a big backpack. What compells me to give it 5 stars is the fit. I'm a large human (6'6" 300lbs) and with the adjustability offered I can dial in a comfortable carry every time out. It's a pleasure to use, which can't be said of many packs out there. As usual with Gregory packs construction is bomber and this unit has put up with everything so far. Don't overspend on a sexier brand before considering the Gregory Stout 75.
Can adjust the torso length. The ability to shift the weight from shoulders to hips to somewhere in between was great (although I had to go to the Gregory website to learn how best to do this with the straps and load levelers. Great pockets except the hip pockets could be larger. A little heavy but I accepted that in advance.
Bought this pack to replace a Shasta which was still in good shape after 20 years but heavy and lacking in features. Appreciate the missing pounds and all the bells and whistles. Still working the rigging after a four day trail work party but the pack is very adjustable and I'm confident that I'll get it dialed in. Unfortunately the clip on sternum strap broke suddenly about a mile into the hike in. Pack load was well below capacity and strap was normal tension. Didn't expect that but managed through the trip. After returning I went to Gregory site which promises lifetime warranty but talks alot about what doesn't apply and not much about how to exercise except shipping the pack back to them. Service and repair area on site says to use Contact to request replacement parts so I did that. After waiting all week for a reply I tried calling Customer service number and repeatedly got a message that everybody was in training but would be available during the hours that I was actually calling. No way to leave a message. Planning to use the pack for another trip soon but guess I'll have to rob a part off an old pack. Bottom line - seems like a good pack but good luck if something breaks on first use or any other time.
Really big fan of this bag, the side pockets are super handy! It’s a big bag, like a big big bag. If you are going on a long trip over seas or going on a week or more backpacking trip, this is the perfect bag for you. Value for the money, compared to other brands is SKY HIGH, worth every penny!
Overall very good. One clip digs into my back a tiny bit, but I can’t really feel it when it’s packed full and I’m hiking. Also, the top sack isn’t removable, which is unfortunate, but not a deal breaker.
Everything you could want...comfortable, decent ventilation, well made....my only gripe are the hip belt pockets are a bit small....over all, sweet product that works well on the trail....
Pros: Comfortable & Adjustable Hydration compatible Raincover included Lots of organization compartments Useful straps & pockets Lots of space to bring lots of gear Cons: I'm skinny and haven't figured out how to adjust the waist strap as tight as I'd like it After first backpacking trip I noticed stitching holding one buckle on top of pack tearing out a little
Rugged, compact, sensible, lightweight, comfortable, great for 10-15 day trips.
Very high quality lightweight pack, with sturdy smart locking straps, good comfortable fit. I hiked the Cranberry Lake 50 (mile) during a very wet autumn season and this pack was a champ! It fit all the essentials in a convenient way with easy access on top and front.
First pack I've bought. Comfortable abs distributes weight well
