I'm very happy with my pack! Bought the Rosewood color. It a great size for me (5'3"). I'm new to backpacking, so I was pleasantly surprised at how light and comfortable this pack is. Roomy, nice material, so many stash pockets and hang spots. The only con I have about this pack is I can't reach my water bottle while it's in either side pocket. This could very well be because I am a short girl, I don't know, but it's rather inconvenient that I either have to take off my pack, or have someone hand me my water.
I bought this pack last minute after my opsrey was stolen, which was a blessing in disguise because this pack has so many features that my old one didn’t. I’ve carried it 300 miles now including 220 miles on the JMT and this pack has every feature I could ask for. I love the side and bottom zippers for easy access and unlike other reviewers, I was able to reach my water bottle with the pack on which I LOVED. This pack is the perfect balance of lightweight and durability for me and I love it. I seriously could not be happier
I originally purchased the Gregory Jade 43L in the store because it best matched sizewise what I wanted to walk Camino de Santiago. It also best fit me, vs a similar Osprey. However, my son looked at it and gave his opinion based on having walked the Camino previously. The big thing the Jade was missing was a separate sleeping bag compartment, but also straps at the bottom for a jacket, etc. I went online and found a few other options. After watching some videos, I settled on the Maven. It has both features Jade was lacking. The sleeping bag compartment is very tight, but at least you don’t have to wade through and empty other contents to deal with access. They tout the water bottle compartment on this because you can access it horizontally while wearing the pack. Maybe true, but the bottle would impede your arm and most likely fall out. I will not use that feature myself. This also has an included rain cover, which Jade does not.
