Did the job I agree with most people the weight cannot exceed 25-30 lbs. I went on a pretty long and active hike and this pack just didn't hold on. I had to adjust everytime I say down and the chest adjustment literally snapped. It's a pain in the behind to reattach which really is a bad oversight because you literally can't reattach without a flat screwdriver. I had to literally tie it to keep the weight adjusted properly. Annoying. I also got adjusted in store and originally was going to get the osprey pack but was redirected to this pack. I do like the free float suspension design. Loved how the pack moves around the hips. For an expensive back they really need to fix that chest adjuster. I am going to be returning this item because that one issue was a big one for me.
I took this bag on a 30 mile trip, where my cohort had an osprey bag that ended up really digging into their hips. The Gregory bag was great once I adjusted it correctly, and I appreciated the range of motion that the hips allowed for. I opted to use a straw that connected to a water bottles in the side pockets rather than using the integrated bladder hook, which worked well. I do wish it came with an integrated rain-cover for the price.
I came home from my trip quite disappointed and with bruised shoulders. I believe my final weight with food and water was a little under 30lbs. Honestly, I don't think this bag can comfortably carry more than 20-25 lbs. No matter what I did, I couldn't seem to get the weight to distribute to my hips as it should. I don't think the pain can soley be attributed to user error- I was fitted in store, I packed very carefully, left out all luxury items, and adjusted everything properly. 58L seems like a lot until you start packing this thing, lol! Personally, I think it's better to cinch down extra space vs maxing out your capacity. I guess $300 just doesn't get you nice features like a u zip front, sunglass quick stow, or the silicone grippy area that prevents slippage on your lower back. Also, it's a mistake to get rid of raincovers, imo. Your mileage may vary, quite literally!
I’m really happy with this! I’ve backpacked about 50 miles with this so far with 20-35 pounds and it’s comfortable even with the heavier weight. It’s easy to pack and unpack and there’s plenty of spots to attach things to the outside of the pack. I like the pouch on the shoulder for my Garmin and there’s plenty of room in the waist strap pouches for snacks and small gear. I’m 5’8” and have it adjusted to the smallest possible so I can see where this wouldn’t be a good fit for someone with a smaller frame.
Recently purchased this pack for a weekend backpacking trip carrying ~30lbs. Went in person to REI and tried on basically every women’s bag and this was the only one that fit me well and distributed weight to my hips. I’m 5’4” and 140lb, athletic/curvy build with wide hips. No shoulder or back pain even waking up the next day. Very happy with overall fit and design of this bag, would definitely recommend
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This backpack is an upgrade for me. First the cool contact/free float feature kept me cooler than with my past backpacks. The packs was airy on my back. The hip belt was padded and had two zip pockets for lip balm, snacks, and water ever else you may need. The side pockets allowed access for water bottles. The pick felt secure in back and did not shift when I had to scramble under downed trees and up rock faces. This was helpful to keep me on my feet. The side zip allows for easy access to gear in the main compartment. The pack has enough room for backpacking, ropes for climbing, and any other activity you might need to haul a substantial amount of gear. I am 5'1“ and the pack size Small-medium fit my torso. Gregory gave me this free product to try.
Very happy with this pack! Light, fit is comfortable even after long distances, and it has plenty of attachments and outside spots to stash and strap things but roomy on the inside too. I’ve waited till end of my season and taken this pack 100+ miles this year, and it’s held up great
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There are many features that make this an awesome pack. First of all the purple accents are very pretty, it fits me perfectly, and the straps are well padded and comfortable. There is also no wasted space in this bag. There is one large pocket in the brain and one small one tucked under it. There is also a removable divider at the bottom of the back if you don't want that feature. One of my favorite features on this pack is the side access, which makes it very easy to get to just about anything in your pack no matter how far you've stuffed it in. The last feature that I think makes the pack stand out to me is that the hip pockets are big enough to fit my phone. This makes it easy to quickly grab my phone to take pictures, but also means I have enough space to carry snacks and other little accessories as well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Thank you Gregory and Expertvoice for giving me this free product to test and review. I absolutely love the Maven 58. It's got plenty of room to pack all your gear into with a pocket for important things like your keys. The to pocket it's perfect for items you need quickly on the trail. The side pockets can actually accommodate a large iPhone. It's the first pack I have used that can hold my iphone15 plus. The FreeFloat Technology is works perfectly and boy does it move with you especially hiking down hill. I love the pouch that can hold your Garmin or sunglasses. I did find it a little tight for sunglasses. I've added a video to show what I loved about this pack. This is my pack and will be using it the entire hiking season. Thank you Gregory, you definitely gave the competition a run for their money.
This pack didn't fit my frame well and couldn't carry 25 lbs easily. This is just my personal opinion, and everyone is different. I am 5'1" with a curvy, athletic build, used it once on a 14-mile overnight hike, and ended up with extremely tender shoulders and lower back. If you need to carry 25 pounds or more, opt for a larger pack.
