Fuel for biking 540 miles
This meal fueled me to bike 540 miles across Iowa over 7 days for RAGBRAI! When the food lines were long and I was exhausted and starving at the end of long days and just wanted a hot quick meal, this was it. It's high in protein and calories to nourish my body day in and day out for a week! I love meals with a protein and rice and if you're craving soup this is perfect when you add extra water for a soupy consistency.
ok
It's edible. I try these at home before taking them on a trip. Perhaps if I was starving at the end of a long day it would seem better. having said that, it's not making the rotation. Somewhat bland, some parts were mushy others crunchy. Perfect measurements being in the kitchen and into a heat pouch and timed.
Great product!
Mountain House beats Peak Refuel for taste and overall quality! They've been doing this longer and have it down to a science! I hope they continue to improve and I hope they continue to offer the Military MCW packaging, or at least continue to offer that form of packaging! I like it's simplicity and compactness! I really think they should do the MCW form of packaging with the oxygen absorber, vacuum seal and even tougher mylar (or whatever they use for the ProPak). This would be an unbeatable long term storage food in a form factor that would simply be unbeatable!!!
Taste Great, but not for long hikes
I always like this one. It tastes great, is easy to make, and good calorie/protein stats. But I had only had it at home or on shorter hikes. But once I tried eating this on hikes of 10+ miles, I realized it's not going to work for me. It has so much sodium, that my feet were slightly swollen making hiking up and down steep terrain for miles on end much more difficult. The next day, I had gained 4lbs in water retention (and lost it all 2 days after that.) I'm going to opt for another brand with less sodium for these longer hikes.
Easy prep
I have bought from several different companies and realized I should try some before buying more. I am stocking up for emergencies / Hurricanes. One brands protein pack is vegan. Lentils and beans. The taste was good but you have to boil for 25 minutes. That takes a lot of propane if your power is out. Your chicken and rice has a lot of chicken and a large portion. You only add boiling water to the pouch wait 10 minutes and it's ready to eat. I did add a little extra seasoning. And great for my girlfriend that has nut allergy.
Lots of Chicken
Lots of chicken. I'm not kidding. Nice flavor, not too salty. Just right. The chicken texture seems to be reconsituted, like the inside of a chicken nugget. I would buy again. Not the absolute best I've had, but it's up there.
Delicious and hearty
I’d get this on every upcoming adventure, even if just for me.
yummy freeze dried food
This is the best freeze dried backpacking meal I have ever eaten. I have a general rule of thumb for eating prepared meals like this- no dairy and not high in fiber. Both are bad ideas for backpacking if you want the “cleanest” camping experience (potty-wise). This one tastes great, packs enough calories, and meats my requirements.
Delicious, easy to make, and lightweight
I purchased these for a canoe backpacking trip. They are very easy to pack - lightweight and sturdy packages that won't break open. Rehydrating is very easy with a jet boil. And the flavor of this chicken and rice version is delicious, very savory and hearty.
Tasty and filling
Probably my favorite pro pak. Tried this the first time in the US Military article ration. I’m a long haul truck driver and I keep a bunch of pro paks in my truck in case I stop someplace without food/restaurants. Still well and just need hot water.
