*bivy* tent for one plus gear

This tent is not hard to setup for a *bivy* tent. A free-standing tent has some crossbars (extra weight, bulk) that allow it to pop-up and stay up. A bivy tent needs to be staked out (like a radio tower) and once it is, it is very sturdy. However, while erecting it, it isn’t going to stay free standing until there is tension on the guylines. To support that design, the tent comes with ample stakes and lash points on the tent, fly, and included footprint/groundsheet. There are four guylines also included that are attached to the four best lash points on the fly and have tensioners built in. It also has convenient clips for quickly changing up the fly if the weather changes. One thoughtful touch is a label in the ground sheet that indicates both the door position and correct side. While dirt will quickly help identify the side, I find this very helpful especially at dusk to prevent aggravation. The design is foot-first entry. Unzip the fly and tent, sit where your head will be (so be sure your pants are clean), remove your muddy boots and stow in the small vestibule, then rotate and scoot down. You can easily reach the fly and tent zips from this sleeping position and you can sit up with plenty of room for layer changes and gear management. This is a 2p tent which means (to me) 1p+gear without being super cramped. K9 optional and encouraged if the route allows it. I wish it had more interior pockets, hanging points for small items. Tent is bath tub design witch is a bonus for wet weather and the smaller size also improves warmth without the bulk of a sleeping companion (though there is room for a k9 of reasonable size as encouraged before.) Descent quality, especially when considering it can be had for less than $150 after tax very easily. My application is for a Boy Scout needing to have separate tent due to 2020 social distancing. If you are car camping and looking for convenience and headroom, seek other seas (REI Kingdom is my preferred line.) If you are primitive camping / prefer basics then by all means go this route. It is not as well constructed as my Marmot Tunsten 3p, but because it is intended for one person (to be honest) it won’t have the wear that a multi-person tent requires.

Great space but not easy putting it together

I loved the size of this 2-people tent. We were in the rain for more than 10hrs and no water inside, some condensation but minimum. The rate 2 is because the tent needs time to put it together. Not easy by yourself. The fact that the tent need the cover to be in placed was not expected.

Mountain Smith Lichen Peak 2

Lichen Peak 2, i purchased this tent to take on a Dual-Sport ride on the Smokey Mountain 500 in 2 weeks. REI had this the tent on sale for $99.00. At that price point this tent is a great value. I test set the tent up in my back yard in less than 3 minutes without looking at the directions. I am going to enjoy the extra space inside the body of the tent and the vestibule area that the 2 man tent provides over my 1 man tent. Bonus is it comes with the factory ground cloth. Overall i feel this tent is a very good value at the price i got it for. If the tent was not on sale, i would spend some more money and get a higher quality more expensive tent. Given that i will be carrying this tent on my motorcycle the extra couple lbs for a mid grade quality tent is not a concern of mine. I have been camping and backing for almost 50 years. I currently own 5 tents and have purchased many tents in my life and feel the Lichen Peak 2 will do a fine job and serve me well.

Wonderful budget tent

My spouse has the Lichen Peak 1P, and I coveted it. I got the Lichen Peak 2P on sale and, honestly, the tent would still have been a steal at full price. My first experience with it was setting up in the cold rain. Very quick, very easy to set up. Some wetness did make it inside during the process, but once set up with the rain fly, there was no leakage and no condensation the next morning! For a bivy-style 2 man tent, there was plenty of room for me and for a large dog. My gear and my spouse's gear fit in the vestibule with enough room to set up my stove and make breakfast while still sitting warm in the tent the following morning--and it sure was warm. The reduced/tapered ceiling of the tent definitely loans itself to retaining heat. The tent is, admittedly, a bit too heavy for backpacking, but in terms of space, I found that I could store everything but the poles into a smaller stuff sack (and then just strap the poles in on one of my side pockets). I'm willing to manage the extra ounces for such a great quality tent that fits my needs.

Handles High Winds

This tent held up well in a recent storm my son was caught in. He stayed dry for several days of high winds and rain. The pack weight was good for my 12 year old son, they hiked in several miles. Setup in the field was straight forward, he accomplished it on his own having only practiced once at home before his trip.

Appalachian Hikes

Taken this tent on several miles of the AT trail and it’s been great! Easily put up/take down, plenty of room for one person but may be too tight for two and gear. Rained heavy and forcefully on Whitetop Mtn in VA on one trip and this tent kept me warm and dry!

Great, lightweight tent

I bought this tent to use backpacking. It fits in my Mystery Ranch Glacier perfect. It takes me about 5 minuets to put up. I have used it a few times now, it keeps the elements out and has enough room for me to move about some. Most recently with my daughter in the Ozarks; we had plenty of room with two mummy bags and bedding. I'm looking forward to using it more out on the trail.

Specs dont match

Spect say the tent is 100”x60” Im 6’0 (72”) and my feet touch the bottom of the tent with little room (4”) from touching the zipper door. Also we had light rain yesterday and the rain got through the rainfly onto the top of tent but not THROUGH the tent so thats good i guess. So it’s definitely not 100” long and idk how it would hold up in heavy rain but i did get it on REI Outlet price so 3 stars. . definitely doesn’t look like it would be worth full price.

Extremely hard to setup in San Diego ground, which is dry hard dirt. Also very small, cannot sit inside like other tents.

Decent, But Very Flimsy

Upon finishing the (long) setup, the tent seemed very flimsy, especially for the weight of the tent. There is 2 poles with no crossbar and this requires the tent to be set up with near perfect tie off angles to trees above the tent. Performed decently in the elements but it flapped violently in the wind. Would be a great tent for casual camping but would not recommend for backcountry camping/inclement weather.
