Not sure why everyone hates this bag...

This sleeping bag is a god send for side or stomach sleepers. It is also great for people who hate mummy bags. I waited for a while to review this bag because I was trying to figure out why there were so many negative reviews. I use the insulated Q core deluxe sleeping pad (regular length and width) and it works great, leave it a little under inflated, fold it like a taco and street the elastic around and then finish inflating. Allow me to address some of the concerns that people put: You MUST use it with a sleeping pad, otherwise you have no insulation from below. I see this as a plus because it packs smaller and the down in normal sleeping bags gets compressed under you anyway. The only complaint I have is that the sizing height-wise isn't quite perfect. I am 5'7" so I should have plenty of room but feels little short (I have the regular length bag), but I think this may be personal preference.

Lots to love - but not if you're freezing

I'm so sad about this. I LOVE the pad sleeve holder, love the shape (room to curl up in a ball if need be), love all the little touches. Love this company. But 15 degrees? Nope. Went car camping over Memorial Day weekend, and overnight temps were in the mid to upper 30s. Even with the footprint, tent floor, an insulated Q Core Deluxe sleeping pad (which I love), a heavy doubled-over flannel blanket, and moisture barrier with flannel top layered underneath me, and an extra sleeping bag draped over top and in a full set of clothes and socks, I froze my butt off the entire first night. Thank goodness the bag is wide enough to allow you to curl up in a ball. For the second night, I added a heavy wool army blanket underneath me, a second pair of pants, second pair of socks, and a beanie and was able to make it through the night comfortably. So it's fine if you're car camping and can pack all that extra stuff. But no way would I take this backpacking -- seems almost guaranteed I'd freeze with just the bag and mattress. So I'm deciding whether to return this for something warmer (the women's Magma 15?), or just eat it and keep it as a car-camping-only bag.

I LOVE this bag

I’m 1200 miles into my thru hike of the AT. I LOVE my bag. It does not have insulation on the bottom which saves weight. I use it with the BA ultra core pad and I love my sleep system. I am cold when it gets below freezing and I’m assuming the rating is survival not comfort. With my Sea to Summit thermoreactive liner, I’m great down in the 20s. Now that I’m going into the winter up here in Maine and NH, I’ll probably upgrade to the 0 degree version, but I’m extremely happy so far! I love the little picket inside for my Sawyer water filter!

it's great!!

I feel like a lot of people having issues with this bag also are not using an insulated sleeping pad. I'm using the klymit insulated pad with this and I was quite warm besides my nose sticking out of my bag. It's a really great sleeping bag, and has many useful features. The material is soft and silky and once it warms up from your body heat it feels like a bed in my opinion. I've taken it backpacking and on casual camping trips and it's very comfortable. Maybe only one downside is, because it's roomier than a mummy bag, the areas your skin doesn't touch will be colder. But if you have clothing on it's not so bad. I wouldn't use it in the summer because it gets so warm. My boyfriend and I also zip our bags together sometimes which is awesome!

Great Bag!

We got this BA "Daisy Mae" sleeping bag for our daughter who likes to camp and backpack with us. I'm really impressed by the quality of the bag. It's not at all cheap or flimsy! We did get the shorter version because our daughter isn't yet tall. It fits her like a glove. The mummy hood is awesome. It's also nice that you can unzip the zipper from the foot area to let a little air in/out there by the feet. My only negative of the bag is that not all sleeping pads fit in it well. It does have an elastic stretch pocket/pockets for a sleeping pad, but ours was too big to fit. I wish the elastic stretch pockets were bigger. Not at all a dealbreaker, but something to mention. I should also note my daughter really loves the bag!

So far, so good.

I have only slept in it once. I slept in an uninsulated 1 room tiny cabin on a cot, with no heat. It was 44° and humid outdoors. Sleeping in long underwear and a sweatshirt style nightgown, a sweater on top, a pillow for knees and a traveling pillow and, most important, the insulated Q-Core Deluxe sleeping pad underneath, I slept like Goldilocks in Baby Bear’s bed that night. Just the right temperature, able to move and sleep on my side, the pad keeping my side warm and being just right: not too hard and not too soft.

Good - but not for me.

I tested this bag in the store. It has a lot of features that solve problems I have with my current bag like a pocket for a pillow (or to stuff with clothes to make a pillow) and a sleeve to keep the insulated air mattress in place. What I discovered, however, is there is not a left zipper version of this (or any) Big Agnes women's bag! I was trying to find a new bag since I discovered I am unable to easily open a right zipper bag and my current left zipper bag has a broken pull so this cannot work.

Great 3-Season Bag

This bag is greater summer backpacking. It compresses down nicely and integrates well with other Big Agnes sleep items such as their pillow and sleeping pad. It's shape is great for those like me and my wife who prefer to belly or side sleep, you do not feel restricted like you can in other mummy bags. The trade off is of course that like other 15 degree rectangular bags, if you're going to use it in the fall or spring, I'd advice wearing some sort of thermal pajamas with it as the rectangular shape does not retain heat as efficiently.

IT WORKS!!!

I have 0 degree of this bag and it works!!! I was freezing on two separate bags (Joule 21 and Rab 15 synthetic). In both my feet were freezing and I would feel the wind. So I took the Daisy Mae on an 8 day backpacking trip where temperatures were the same and I wore the same layers for pajamas. I was plenty toasty. I know people are worried about the fabric in the back but, believe me, with a sleeping pad that had an R value of 6 which is appropriate for cold temperatures, I was so warm I was delayering. In addition, I had plenty of room to bend my knees and change pants as well as upper garments.

Temperature rating must be off

Took this camping for the first time last night and it was maybe 40 degrees but I was freezing and couldn’t sleep well because of it. I can’t imagine how cold I would be if it were twenty degrees, let alone 15, which is what it’s rated to!!! Agree with the other reviewer that the only benefit is it’s wide enough to curl into a ball....will be exchanging for either the big Agnes zero temp rated bag or a different brand.
