- 3N1 system offers 3 bag configurations with 2 lightweight, down-insulated bags for temperature versatility and a technical sleep system that keeps you on your pad all night
- Use just the outer bag on warm summer nights, just the inner bag when temperatures start to drop, and both together on the coldest trips for ultimate warmth
- Layering the inner and outer bags maximizes thermal efficiency; their offset quilting minimizes cold spots
- Inner bag design mimics the Big Agnes Sidewinder sleeping bag; it's designed for side sleepers and made to move with you from side to side
- Keep your head snug and warm using the inner bag's jacket-style hood
- Spacious, rectangular-shaped outer bag is constructed with a no-draft collar; a no-draft wedge; and 2 no-draft, antisnag side zippers with zipper garages
- Ultimate comfort and additional hand warmth with hand tuck pockets at the top of outer bag
- Padlok™ sleep system attaches easily to your sleeping pad (not included), allowing you to comfortably roll around inside without rolling off your pad
- Padlock design features a pad cinch system with self-equalizing drawstring to easily connect the bag to your pad while the middle securement provides extra stability
- Pad cinch system is adjustable to accommodate a variety of pad sizes
- Pillow Barn attached to pad sleeve allows for natural head movement while keeping a pillow (or jacket) securely in place (pillow not included)
- 2-way zipper unzips from the top or bottom of both bags for easy temperature control throughout the night
- Inner bag features a center-zip YKK #3 zipper; outer bag features a left-zip YKK #5 zipper
- Includes a mesh sack ideal for long-term storage and a smaller stuff sack for active use
- To pack bag down to its minimum compressed size, Big Agnes recommends pairing it with a Big Agnes compression stuff sack or superlight girdle (not included)

Each bag then gets 2 ratings: the Comfort rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "cold sleeper" comfortable, and the Lower Limit rating is the lowest temperature at which the bag will keep the average "warm sleeper" comfortable. Some brands determine their own temperature rating by aligning to the Comfort rating for women’s bags, to the Lower Limit rating for men’s bags, or somewhere in the middle for nongendered bags.

I don’t like it when the math ain’t mathin
Bought this bag for my boyfriend who is a very hot sleeper so he could have the option of using both bags when it’s colder or just the one for warmer trips. We took it with us on the Teton crest trail and that was a huge mistake, it never got below 30 and he froze almost every night, I was in my 15 degree bag and I’m always freezing and plenty warm all night. I don’t know how they think 50 degree bag plus a 40 degree bag makes 15 but something isn’t adding up here. Returned it and will be getting something else
Lost Ranger (2004)
I still use this 20+ year old bag. The down insulation is a bit tired and less lofty but I can still comfortably sleep in the low 40's with it.
Best versatile sleeping option I've ever tried!
I recently look my Big Agnes Lost Ranger or to Philmont with our scout troop and I have to say it's the best night's sleep I've ever had outdoors! Between the quilt and sleeping bag, there are several configuration options to accommodate a wide range of sleeping temperatures, and the pillow sleeve is clutch for keeping your pillow where it should be at night! There were a couple nights out in Philmont that temps must have dipped into the upper 30s and I was plenty warm. I wish the zippers were a little more robust, but that's my only complaint, and it's a small one.
What's not to love?
I have used this to through hike the pct. Since I've been on trail for 5 months I have seen lots of weather- there are some big ranges! The adjustability of this sleeping bag set up is perfect for me because no matter the night and location of camp I will be comfortable. Only annoying part is the cinch on the bottom I don't have an inflatable pad so it's useless to me but doesn't get in the way really. Packs small and is lighter than most other commonly used pct hiker bags.
Very Tight
I’m a big guy- 6’2” 280lb. Bought this bag looking for something that packs down small for moto camping. The inner bag is so tight that it is hard to bring my hands up my chest to open the zipper to get out. We bought my normal size lady the Roxy Ann 3N1 and she had the same concerns. Barely able to move in the inner bag. If you are super skinny, this might work for you, but if you are a big individual with some size, you’ll be using REIs great return policy.
Really Nice Bag
Super comfortable, I like it a lot more than a regular mummy bag. The dual side zippers are great my only complaint is that I wish the bag had zippers at the feet. The inner mummy bag can be kind of annoying because it has a one-sided zipper and I tend to get trapped and overheat in warmer temps. I now use the inner bag more as a quilt which works alright. The pad cinch works great on inflatable pads, I could see it being a problem on non-inflatable ones.
Wonderful sleep
I really like this bag, 100% buy it again. Though, I'm 5'11'' and the max for a regular is 6', I should have bought the long size. Still, I'm happy with the sleeping bag!
