Rated 5 out of 5 by from Anti-gravity delivers It is said you should always trust your instincts. This was the first pack I tried on of many, and ultimately came back to it as it made others feel heavy when packed. The anti-gravity really delivered to its name. That alone sold this pack, but the lid detaches and converts to a decent sized day pack AND it comes with a 2-liter hydration pack as part of the REI co-op colaboration run. This was a no-brainer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Comfortable I took this bag out on a three day trip in the South Eastern part of Oregon this spring and encountered all four seasons in three days. I was carrying almost 40 lbs down steep declines in 4 inches of snow and very high winds and had no problems keeping balance, and the pack remained comfortable whether it was 30 degrees or 90. There is nice ventilation in the back panel allowing your back to stay relatively cool. I had no issues with the inside getting wet, though I did put some scotch-guard on before leaving. The day pack is a nice addition and works well. Very easy to deploy and easy to put back on the full pack and comfortable with a few water bottles and jackets inside. This pack also made me a bladder convert, as I never liked how the hose to bladder bags never seemed to have a comfortable place to rest, but with the magnet and loops system on the shoulder and sternum straps the hose tucks away nicely. I currently own a sleeping bag that doesn't compress to be terribly small so the 60 liter version is almost too small, but anyone with a compressible sleeping bag should have no problem fitting everything well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very comfortable ! Got to replace an older Aether 70. This pack is way more comfortable than the older model. Very soft on the shoulders and back.

Is the anti gravity system similar to the one found in the Osprey Atmos? Is the pack also compatible with the Osprey daylite pack like the other models of the Aether? What makes this different than the regular Aether, are you adding the a rain cover?

Asked by: kdavis001
The Anti-Gravity (AG) system on this pack is very similar to the suspension system on the Atmos AG packs. The Aether AG packs are compatible with the Daylite packs. These REI exclusive models come with a 2 liter Hydraulics reservoir; a rain cover or dry sack is not included.

What is the volume of the detachable "summit pac". Is it the same for the 70 Aether Ex.

Asked by: EZDOESIT2
The top lid daypack pocket is between 8 to 10 liters depending on pack size, when fully expanded it is 18 liters.

Will the Bearvault 500 fit horizontally in this pack? Is the # difference with the Aether 70 truly just 1 ounce? Planning the JMT with as few resupplies as is possible.

Asked by: EZDOESIT2
The difference in weight between the two sizes is approximately 1.5 oz. This pack does not easily fit a BearVault BV500 horizontally, but it does fit vertically.
