I used this pack on my first ever backpacking trip, and though I have nothing else to compare it to, I thought it performed great. Given that I ended up with a pack weight of 42 pounds (!) it was pretty comfortable. I did have little trouble getting the strap adjustments correct, but I think that was probably user error and lack of experience. Overall, I loved the components of the pack and loved that the brain turns into a daypack, which was really convenient having to check my pack to fly to the trip destination.
I searched high and low for a large 65-75 liter pack that would still fit my short torso, and this bag was the answer. I took the Ariel Plus 70-Liter pack on a 3-day climb of Mount Rainier and it had all the straps, buckles, pockets, and extra space I needed to fit crampons, trekking poles, ice axe, water bottles, food, clothing, sleeping bag and sleeping pad, and 2 pairs of hiking boots (trail boots and double insulated climbing boots)! The bag just kept expanding to meet my needs, and I was impressed at how well-designed it was. Most importantly, my pack was 40-45 pounds, and the weight distribution of this pack allowed me to carry that heavy load up the mountain. The shoulder straps fit comfortably, the ventilated back frame (which has an adjustable height strap) offered strong support while staying cool, and the waist belt cinched enough to fit my hips. I tried so many backpacks, most of them built for men or larger frames, and this bag was perfect for my needs. It's expensive but very well made, and will last many years. I can't wait to take it on more adventures.
Bought this pack for my daughter for a 4 day trip. It has a convertible day pack (love) and is adjustable to one's frame. Very pleased with the quality of this product.
Even though the pack is a little heavier than the a 65 it’s very comfortable. The multiple zippers allow easy accessibility.
I didn't understand the significance of a female-specific pack until I got this one -- I had been using a 75L + unisex / male pack for 10+ years and it always felt just a little off. The first time putting this one on, fully loaded, for a 5 day backpacking trip, I realized what a game-changer it was. Originally I was concerned going down in size by 5L, but all the pockets and stash points make up for it. It packs much better than my previous pack and the weight is distributed better and sits on my hips more comfortably. Definitely recommend!
Just got this pack as a replacement for my very old and trusted Arial 75. Despite being a guy I got the women's as my last one was a women's and it fit me so well. I am 5'7"" and 155#. Super comfortable and easy to adjust. I have just used it so far for day backcountry skiing. It easily synched down to a small size and was narrow with no wobble for skiing in the trees. Lots of pockets, I especially like the double pockets in the lid for sorting small stuff.
This pack is wonderful in most every aspect! I love the cross straps in the front and the added storage up front as well. The pack is also very comfortable. However, the only thing I'm not a fan of is how the day bag is assembled. There used to be snap clips to secure the day bag straps, now you have to loop it through & then weave it through the clip..this wouldn't be a big deal, however it is EXTREMELY hard to get it through. Having to assemble/disassemble it like this every single time is a pain & takes way more time than it should imo. It's also really hard to find a "how-to" online as i thought i was doing it wrong the first time because it was a struggle & taking way too long. Other than this minor thing, the pack is great, and as per usual so is osprey - i just think they should steer back to the clips for the day pack. For now I am going to hand-sew my own on.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Have only taken this pack on one trek so far but it was great. Very comfortable and distributes weight nicely. I love how convient it is to access the inside of the pack with the front pouch. Only complaint is the water bottle pocket- it’s very difficult to get a 1.5 liter Nalgene in and out when the pack is full.
Backcountry camping love the day bag. Should've come with a waist belt. I converted a scrap myself.
Absolutely love the day bag for backcountry camping!
